We have no kids. I'm considering these:
1) Small handgun safe that opens via combination or fingerprint.
SentrySafe seems to have good reviews but a lot of people complained about the battery going dead and needing the key to open it. This would apply to any box that uses a digital combination, I assume. I am leaning toward the book but there's always the chance someone could pick it up from the shelf, even though it would be surrounded by other books. On occasion we have the house professionally cleaned, so I'd have to be mindful of that.
I don't want to spend more than ~$150. What do you use?
1) Small handgun safe that opens via combination or fingerprint.
Pros: Keeps guests out. Don't have to replace when we have kids.
Cons: Have to worry about battery life, or hiding a key somewhere. Not as cool as a hollowed out book. More expensive than the book.
2) A book that's cutout in the center to hide a gun. Could make myself, or buy one online.Cons: Have to worry about battery life, or hiding a key somewhere. Not as cool as a hollowed out book. More expensive than the book.
Pros: It's awesome. Quick access, don't have to worry about potential failure.
Cons: A guest could grab the book off the shelf and the gun could fall out. We don't have guests often, but it's possible. Would have to replace when we have kids.
I already have a big Fort Knox safe for the bulk of my stuff, but I want to keep something in the family room on a permanent basis. I usually have one of my carrying pieces lying around but I want something that's always going to be there, and in the same spot.Cons: A guest could grab the book off the shelf and the gun could fall out.
