I read a good explanation as to how a steel guide rod can help with smoother shooting. I don't fully understand the "math" behind the springs though.
It's my understanding the OEM recoil spring weight for newer/current Glocks is 16 lbs, and the older Gens are 17 lbs. I never did find out the timeline of when 17 ended and 16 began.
This pertains to my Gen 3 G22. I mistakenly bought a Stainless Guide rod and a 22 lb recoil spring. However, I was told the 22 lb spring can potentially be ok if I swap over to 357 Sig.
I've never fired the G22 with the new guide rod in it. In fact, I took it out and reinstalled the OEM rod&spring. Isn't the OEM a "captive" spring, in other words, it's not made to come off the polymer guide rod, or can I theoretically move that spring over to the steel guide rod? Or I can order a single spring. My point and question is : Is it a risk to use the 22 lb spring? If so, which weight spring would be good for the times I swap from .40 cal to 357 Sig, and what kind of tweaks can make difference, as far as springs, connectors, etc etc.
Kind of a loaded rambling question, I know. Thanks for any elaboration.
