GTL 10/11 and 21/22 Lights...anyone got one?

Don't have a tac light on any of my pistols and I decided it is time to get one mainly to keep on my G21 on the night stand.

Since I keep a G21 or 22 as my normal CCW and home defense pistol, think I am going with the Glock tactical light.

Anyone have one/use one or have an opinion?

Thx!

I personally use Insight Tech M-3's. 90 lumens with adjustable beam and light weight. Also they are usually cheaper than the Glock light. Use them on my shotguns, AR's and AK's also. :wavey:

Thx. I am torn. While I have a lot of other pistols with rails, I gravitated toward the Glock for most of my real defense usage. I think I will likely just go for it and get the Glock light.

Surprised more did not sound off. I want to do a few COF's with it to give it a proper test so that I can learn vs what I have been doing with a hand held tac light.

Well just keep checking the thread, as I am sure there will be more chime in. Opinions you know everybody has one...LOL. I do know guys that use the Glock light and none have ever expressed any issues with them and seem to be happy. The specs on the 2 are close to the same it's just that I like the switch and the long remote switch when I use the M-3 on my long weapons and I usually find them new for under 80 bucks. I.m sure the Glock light is a good peice.....

I bought a GTL 22 for my G22. Do you want the good news or the bad news first? The bad news is this: It broke in half - I carried it around in a tactical nylon holster for two weeks, often in my gym bag, and it got banged around a bit from normal "carrying it around." One night I was outside getting into my car and said to myself, "If I had to use the gun and laser right now, how fast could I get the gun and put the light/laser on a target?" When I pulled it out and flicked the switch, nothing worked. No light, no laser, no nothing. I took it inside and looked it over, and the whole front end had cracked and it completely fell apart. The very time I simulated needing it the most, it failed me.

The good news is, Glock in Smyrna, GA told me to send it case and all, and they would replace it no questions asked, which they did. I don't like pressure switches, so the "trigger finger-flick" ON switch was great. However, I'm selling the replacement unit on eBay and I went with a Surfire X400 light laser combo. It's all aluminum and should hold up better than the GTL. However, the X400 switch needs to be turned on with your free hand if you don't use a pressure switch, which I don't.

You can see in the photo here where the whole front end just cracked and fell off. It's not supposed to do that, obviously, accidentally or deliberately. I liked the GTL 22, but I just don't trust it anymore.

I bought a GTL 21 because I got a heck of a deal on it, was mispriced, had to be, only paid 154$ new,IIRC. It was an impulse buy , I even called the wife to get "permission" to CYA. I have had little influence on her over the 20 some years we been married, but I have made her a sucker for a bargin regarding guns.

I really bought it for the laser, I had a Surefire X-200A, which I actually think is tougher, but the cost of the newer surefires..... The Glock light does not do a bad job, but not spectacular either. The laser keeps it's zero pretty good through mounting and dismounting(on the same gun of course) but in bright sunlight it is useless, as is about any laser, though I have not tried a green one, thought I was going to when one of my students had one, but he forgot it on our range day. I did have a bulb fail pretty quickly, had to be a defect, because we have since) used the light to extend sessions into the dark when one of my best friends comes to town(he has no place to shoot, and I have built a nice range on a buddies private property, so the 2nd bulb has been through several sets of batteries. The light comes with one spare bulb, and the first order of business should be to get several spares, I had a time finding one(but did not think to call Glock direct, duh).

I have used an aluminum Streamlight on a friends duty gun, but we did not shoot that long after twilight, but it seemed well built, and he had been working for about 8 months and his department uses light dedicated duty holsters- no problems.

The Glock light is a little more streamlined, the bulk going down, rather than to the sides, I prefer the Surefires momentary on-push forward on the switch, the Glock, you push down, which is the same motion to turn it all the way on. The GTL 21 has a selector on the bottom to choose;off;light;light/lasser and laser only. The manual warns to leave this switch in the off position when not in use, it must draw some current, I should test it and see if does run the batteries down. I think the surefire is the benchmark, the streamlight not too far behind, and Glock a bit behind that. A major draw back is the LEDs are so much better now days, and not having to worry about bulbs is great. If I recall, the Glock light only is pretty inexpensive, and would be way better than some of the chinese junk coming in, but, a chinese light with an LED....but I would still worry. FWIW the Surefire stays on the bed gun- the Glock gets taken out and shot, mainly because I am lazy and dont want to climb steps and have to remember to take the surefire back up, and the laser is a good training aid for students. I would not have bought it had it not been for the mistake in price(and I did ask if it was used because of the low price, so I kind of gave them a heads up...) Like someone said above, this is not a timely reply, but I just ran across the thread.

I have the GTL 21 and really like it. Im sure there is better light/laser combos out there but I find it more than adequate for use. Doesnt hurt that I found it on gunbroker for $50 barely used. Plenty bright light and the laser holds zero. I have shot at the range alot with it on my G17.

I use a Streamlight TLR-2 on my bedside gun and an older Streamlight M6 on my wifes bedside gun. You can get the older generation M6 model on ebay and other sites for under $100, which is a bargain for a very high quality unit.

Look for an LED unit. They are brighter, they don't break, and the batteries last longer.

Gatorglockman, I bought a GTL10 back a few year back but have since UPGRADED to a couple of Streamlights (TLR-2) for household SD. I had a devil of a time finding out the lumen output of the GTL10 (don't remember it know) but the TLR-2 is far, far brighter and the little red dot (laser) is nice too. Unless you are just looking to stay with GLOCK stuff, the aftermarket lights generally give superior performance for the $$.
