My current hunting handgun is a 6in GP100 that I absolutely love, but I'm looking for something smaller for general woods work. I've narrowed it down most likely to these 2 models although I'm not completely closed off to a standard 4.2" SS GP100.

1. Which model do you prefer?
2. Should I get the Novak sights or adjustable sights?

PS: Pic of my GP100 for attention.

I like the Match Champion. The slightly slicked up factory trigger pull is much better than standard Ruger trigger pulls.

Go with the Novak rear sight. I could never stand the sight picture of the standard Ruger adjustable rear sight.

Alas the 10mm Match Champion doesn’t have the Novak option.

Get adjustable sights, with the front sight like
the one you own now, it is easy to change
and a plus if you have different power loads.

The front can be used for elevation adjustments.

I like the rear sight as low as possible when zeroed,
you can cut the front down to do that.

This is a good one,

I prefer the adjustable sight models in the GP100. I have a 4.2 inch version and really like it. My new love is the 3 inch barrel. Almost perfect for a woods gun that isn't meant as a "primary" hunting weapon.

The one that has my attention is the new, hammer equipped Kimber. Gorgeous, 6 shots and weighs 25 ounces.

I absolutely love my Match Champion. The trigger is better than stock GP100, but can easily be made even better with a little more polishing, and lighter springs if you are into that. I also like the feel of the slim wood grips that come on it, and the 4.2 inch barrel with just the half underlug. The only Wiley Clapp I've handled was a buddy's SP101, which I did like alot, but obviously much different feel than the GP.

I was all about wanting a WC Gp100...
Until I found a standard 3" GP. It was a couple hundred less, so I "settled" for it.
Couldn't be happier...the trigger is great, and I like the sights just fine.
It's a revolver I can't seem to miss with.
Upon scanning the local classifieds I found this very model with wood insert grips and a trigger job done by a local well respected gun smith. Picking it up this afternoon at 5pm. Will post pics then. It is for a very fair price that I cannot pass up.

I've always liked those plain jane 3" GP100 other than the smallish front sight and ill-defined rear sight. Congrats on getting a good deal. Alas, now you can't say that you have the Clapp. Haha.

Definitely the best feeling double action trigger I've ever felt on a Ruger revolver and that includes my LCR that I used to have.

It’s funny...as a long time S&W shooter, I was ready to hate the GP trigger. When I set out to find one, I read up on home trigger jobs, said to be “essential”.
Come to find that the trigger on the GP I bought rivals my well used S&W Model 15.

As for the “smallish front sight, and ill-defined rear sight”, in use, they are bold and clear, with a nice square notch. More importantly, they shoot to POA. I got rid of a 3” SP101 because it didn’t shoot to POA.

On my Ruger Redhawk, I put the rear V blade with front gold bead sights on. Very fast on target acquisition.

Yep just finished painting the front sight blade on this revolver, now just waiting for it to dry.
