Going to be in the Albuquerque, NM area for the next month or so on some business. Does any one have a good gun range you can recommend to me in this area? Thanks.

The best range is the Zia Rifle and Pistol Club but it is members only. The city has an outside range on the west side. The primary indoor range is a public one on the north side of town at Calibers.

Was a member of Zia for a number of years before we moved. Good place.

Caliber’s isn't bad, although somewhat dimly lit IMO. You can shoot all pistol calibers and rifle calibers up to 5.56. They also rent firearms. I ended up joining the Del Norte gun club because I needed a place to shoot 7.62. I have never been to the Albuquerque range.

Check this link for additional info on the mentioned ranges.

Calibers is OK.
The Shooting Range Park on the west side is OK.
Zia is probably the best of the three but it is private. Maybe you can find someone who's a member and go with them.

Since I let my membership lapse, I go out in the Mesa south of ABQ.

I don't like that it their HVAC's air flow is blowing straight down the shooting lanes. I suppose it's good if you want to practice moving targets.:wow: However, it's a decent indoors range. A bit pricey for the area though.

The public range by Double Eagle Airport? I haven't been there for ages, but it wasn't a bad outdoors range either.

I've been out there a couple of times for cowboy action shooting. Nice, but you have to be a member.

The place where everybody used it as a personal dump yard?

Zia has far more types of shooting than the city range does and you can do your own thing without having to deal with a range officer.

Don't believe the city range has berms where you can do defensive practice which Zia has, just shooting from benches and waiting for cease fires to change targets. Don

I E-mailed Zia about 6 months ago and never heard back from them. I guess they are full up with quite a waiting list.

I go to Just west of town close to the Metropolitan Detention Center. It is a long drive for me from the NE Heights.

I used to shoot in Bernallio County, back in the Coyote Springs area, but got scared once when a couple of sheriffs seemed to be waiting for me to hike out. It is illeagal to shoot in the county even though there is nothing going on back there. I often wondered if they could hear me shooting 357 from the highway. This was a nice drive or bicycle from my house. Not worth gun charge though.

Can you give some GPS cords to where to shoot south of town? I'd like to check it out.

So that one finally happened, huh? Supposedly it's super nice. I'll have to check it out when I go home.
Cutler and Washington. I went to the grand opening. It is nice enough. Maybe they will have taken care of the ventilation system moving the targets all about.

I am not sure if both locations are going to remain opened or not. The new one is closer to me, but I don't like paying that much to shoot.

Sorry, I don't have GPS.

Where I go shooting is about three or four miles south of MDC. The ruins of an old church built half underground are in the area. On the second pict., you can see the fence that separates BLM/Res land on the south. The only .gov vehicles I've seem have been on the south side of the fence maybe 50 yards from us. I've never had any problems w/LE in that area.

I used to shoot by WestGate before the whole area got developed. If LE or open space all they do is ask you to leave . Unless you are a *****, that's all that will happen. I do know that the Sheriffs in the RR area will write a police report and take down ID/DL and weapons serial #s. That was in the late '90's.

Is that where the old circuit city used to be?

Thanks for the tip.

Thanks for the replies, guys! I will check out Calibers and the public range, I guess. I am suprised that a city this big does not have more ranges.

New Mexico is one big shooting range. The only bigger one I know of is Nevada. I wish every state had a bunch of BLM land.
Exactly, literally half the state is BLM or National Forest. Nice to be shooting an AR and have people drive by and just wave at you. In IL where I came from they'd probably send out a SWAT team.

Caliber's has some suppressed, full-auto guns for rent, also a Nighthawk 1911.

I am a member of Calibers, and really like it there. They just opened up a new location in ABQ with a 100 yd indoor range. I haven't made it over there yet, but it's supposed to be state of the art. Plus, now you can shoot non pistol caliber rifles and sight in shotguns.

Keep in mind, lately the officers on BIA reservations are confiscating firearms if they catch you shooting on their land

Sent from my left big toe
You do not want to get crosswise with reservation officers. Poorly trained and jealous of their rights as a BS sovereign nation. If they were sovereign, they wouldn't need to get virtually all their financing from the taxpayers. A thorn in my side. Don
