Glock extended magazines: what should I know?

So, I have a Glock 19 Gen 5, and I'd like to finally buy a factory extended magazine for it (after never having owned the mag extension throughout all my years of having Glocks).

What should I know about them, and where can I get the best factory extended magazine from? From what I have heard, the non-factory magazines jam a lot but the factory ones do not?

I've got a few of the Glock factory 33 rounders, and they work just fine. I picked up some of the magpul 27 round units, and they works too.
But as said before, the factory Glock ones are the way to go and get a bunch for safe keeping when they will harder to come by.

I have 2 Magpul Pmag 17 rounders for my Glock 17, and one extended 21 round Magpul Pmag. All have worked well without feeding issues.

However, in USPSA matches, I have dropped the Pmag 17 rounders and OEM mags without any problems. But, if I drop the 21 rounder with rounds still in the magazine, the top round will sometimes end up in an odd position. It looks like the 21 rounder is done for. But as soon as I remove that top round, the next round slides into place. This has happened twice. Top it off and run the next stage without a problem.

I’m not quite sure what you’re asking.
1) about the 33 rounders? Then yes go factory
2) about putting a +2 on your 15 round mags? Then make sure you get the stock spring for the 17 round mag. Or better yet, go to 17 round mag factory.
3) about putting a +2 on a factory 17 round mag? Then remember there is a special spring that goes with that as well. I’m sorry, but I was unable to retrieve the part number. It would be the same spring that is used in the factory 17+2 mags for example with the Glock 19 X model
4) don’t forget Glock makes a factory 24 round mag now.

Yeah I want the 33 round one. Where is the best place to buy one of those? I haven't had an easy time finding the factory made ones to be honest. They don't seem real common.

They hold more rounds?
There are Glock-made and 3rd party ones with many people having success and problems with either?
The Glock ones cost more than 3rd party ones?
That your decision on which to get depend on your purpose for them?
That every gun parts retailer generally sells them, sometimes on sale like Black Friday?

If it's for serious use them go with Glock OEM.

FWIW In addition to Glock, I have some ETS and some KCI extended 9mm mags that I use in my Ruger Carbine. The ETS worked fine out of the box but I had to get new springs (Wolff +10%) to get the KCI's to run reliably (even with new springs still a lot cheaper than OEM).

BUT - these are for fun range time. I wouldn't trust either in competition and I doubt that they would hold up well to being dropped.

I want the 33 round factory Glock magazine because of the greater capacity. Often the person in the gunfight dies while trying to reload, and I think the more rock and roll before having to put in another magazine the better in a defensive situation.

Besides that, it's fun to have a high capacity magazine at the range or just for show....

My experience shooting run and gun competition is the OEM 33 rounders cause the muzzle to rock up and down because of the lower weight center point.

OEM newer designed “+” extensions have been great. We drop them on concrete and they stay together. Much more balanced than the 33 rounders. I would carry them for self defense use without hesitation.

I use it in competition and never had a failure. Also you can get an OEM 17 rounds and install the extension. 22 rounds + 1.....
Running a G19 with plus 6 in USPSA Limited Minor is no advantage compared to a G17/G34. IDPA only allows 10 rounds in a magazine. So what competition are you shooting?

The 24 round mag is a great mag that is not too long, like the 33 rd one can be. You can also add the Glock +2 extension to the 24 rd mag for extra capacity, which is what I have done. The spring is already strong so the +2 makes little difference to that.

If you add the spring for the Glock 17 mag into a Glock 19 mag with +2 extension, you probably will end up with a +1 extension. I have not changed springs on my mags with the +2 base but on one it does not always lock the slide open when empty but works fine otherwise.

Dee, you have your choice of a 24 (no extension) or a 33 (G18 31 round stick with a OEM Glock plus 2) Glock OEM mag. Or aftermarkets, like MagPull and KCI. I only use OEM Glock mags, the G18 OEM mags are 31 and I add a plus 10 Taylor Freelance extension for USPSA PCC Division. For USPSA Limited and Carry Optics, I use a standard 17 round stick with the plus 6 Taylor Freelance.

USPSA. I just compete with myself trying to improve each time. I’m too old for getting mad regarding my standing in a competition. For me it’s important to practice with the tools I carry. That’s my goal.
