THIS THREAD IS FOR THE STUDY OF DATES CODES FOR AUSTRIAN-PROOFED PISTOLS!

If you are looking to find out when your Glock was made and it does not have a date code then call Glock - they will have the information you seek. NOT ALL GLOCKS HAVE PROOF MARKS.

A recent Gunbroker auction brought this to mind as well as previous discussions on actual production dates for the earliest Glock 17 pistols. While I believe it is possible for a serial number prefix to have more than one date code it may not be possible to have more than the letter prefix of the serial number available. For posterity, I'd like to include all Glock models from around the world.

Given the enormous number of model variations and the fact the scope of this thread is to track serial numbers with dates codes, a model number isn't necessary but is encouraged.

The first letter is for the month:
E...Jan
L...Feb
N...Mar
B...Apr
S...May
Z...Jun
G...Jul
P...Aug
I...Sep
C...Oct
V...Nov
A...Dec

The last two letters are for the year:
O...0
W...1
K...2
R...3
F...4
M...5
H...6
Y...7
T...8
D...9

Example: ETY = E
(Jan)T(8)Y(7)

Here we go:

And here I, and others, merely thought that GLOCK serial numbers just went in letter and number order from the beginning (at least usually).

Thus, AA000 to AA999, then AB000 to AB999, etc.

Later, of course, they changed to three letters, three numbers, and I guess now to four letters, three numbers.

For a while, guns bound for the US had US at the end, which was part of the serial number.

The pentagon stamped on the barrel is to indicate the grade of steel used. There is also a pentagon with a dot in the center which is a higher grade of steel. I'll find my notes on this and post more. ATY would be December of 1987.

Some folks are paranoid for their serial number to be posted. They think that someone is going to take their number and call in the gun as stolen. Or (and this is my favorite) The ATF watches these sights like a hawk to see what guns you have. (Tinfoil hats are too tight) I have receipts and or BOS for mine. If I thought there was a valid reason for anybody to have my numbers. I would give it to them. truthfully, It's none of their damn business what my numbers are.

ED*** STD G17L.2

I know this one conflicts with the other ED guns known... But they must not have run the full 1,000 as gen 1s.
Thanks! As DJNiner said, interesting.

I found my gen 2 ED prefix on our favorite auction site and bought it because I saw that it had Austrian proofs... I didn't notice the serial number until after I got it home. It's number 268 so they either made these out of order or there are more gen 2s than 1s in the ED range. For my own curiosity, has anyone else seen a gen 2 17L with Austrian proofs?

Can anyone give me some info on this number? it is for a Gen 1 G17
CA*** ( two Proof Marks) ETY.
Thanks, HandyMan Hugh

I can only tell you that it was proof tested in Jan of 87. Thanks for the info!

Should post this here as well as the AA thread...

I have so much to do but when Glock collecting comes up I can't help myself but to take a few minutes to catch up on it....

Here is some more info on early guns:

All Gen 1 17s except where noted:

AA8xx CTF (10/84)

AB1xx LTF (2/84)

AB NTF (3/84)

AC0xx NTF (3/84)

AD4xx NTF (3/84)

AD7xx NTF (3/84)

AG ATF (12/84)

AH0xx BTM (4/85)

AV ETH (1/86)

BH ETT (1/88)

Gen 2 G20 BSE SDH

Interesting to note that the AB guns have the earliest dated codes, followed by the AC and then the first US import AF.

They are all withing months of each other in '84 but its interesting to see which have the earliest date codes vs the SN prefixes.

I can fill in many of the blanks for US Gen 1 17s, 17 L, 17 LP, etc. I'll go into the vault this weekend and will post the info.

Hi All...
I'm new to these parts and new to Glock ownership. Just trying to decipher the markings on my Gen 3 G22.
The frame, barrel and slide all have BFAX***. So far I haven't found the BFAX prefix anywhere.

On the top of the barrel is .40 followed by "3D" in a circle. Got the .40 part, but the "3D" has me stumped. Below that is the Glock logo followed by "AT". The quotation marks are mine.

Can someone point me in the right direction?

Thanks for your wisdom!!!

Amanda

Hi Amanda, welcome to GT! BFAXxxx is a fairly recent issue GLOCK serial number. I have a gen4 G19 FS with serial BFEWxxx from mid 2017. I would estimate your gen3 G22 to be around first half 2017. The AT stands for Austria (so your G22 is made in Austria). The circled 3D has to do with the barrel metallurgy composition (I think). Enjoy your G22!
