I ordered a beavertail backstrap from Rapid Engineering on EBay.

I had a bit of a delay in receiving it because of weather and no fault of Rapid Eng’g.
I ordered it on Jan. 12th and received it Feb. 2nd. The doggone post office or truck got snowed it on the way, apparently.
My backstrap was shipped by RE on 1/13/24

Rather than blather, here are photos I put together using Mematic to show the Rapid Eng’g backstrap installation.

PROS:
It helped in keeping my hand from getting bit. I have big hands. I seriously considered dumping my G43.

CONS:
Gaps. They don’t harm functionality but they could look better.
I cracked it on install. Minor cosmetic issue but might be an issue when / if removed.
Backstrap covers pin holes.

Is that the product the gentleman on GT was posting and advertising about? I feel like a replacement should be sent out to you due to the cracking. That shouldn’t happen upon installation imho…looks good though and definitely an appropriate modification. I have big mitts too and have considered picking one up. Great detailed instructions and pictures….

Yes. I believe that post / thread was moved to “Gun Parts & Accessories”
I am not real concerned about a replacement. I went into this knowing it was something new and I had a feeling it was 3D printed. Maybe the material needs changing. Seeing as how I am not savvy enough to make anything like this I am happy to have it, crack and all.
I came very close to selling my G43. Three different times I took chunks out of my hand at the base of my thumb.
I have too much time and effort and magazine parts in it to get my money back out of it in a sale.

I am happy with this mod.

Thank you very much for your feedback, I must say I'm surprised it cracked, that's the first time I've seen that happen. That being said I have a lifetime warranty on these and will be sending you a replacement promptly for no charge. While I didn't have issues with that material, I did just do a material change across all of my backstraps that I've found has better strength qualities as well as a near identical frame color and texture to OEM Glock frames (shown in picture below). I did durability testing with this material on my 43x/48 version and posted the results here. I'm very glad you're enjoying the backstrap and I greatly appreciate you putting together such an in depth overview!

@EngineerPro sent me an email to let me know he was sending a replacement G43 backstrap. I also asked about the 43X/48 backstrap. They have 2. One is full length and one is a shorty like the one pictured above. I decided to by that one as well.
I haven’t been a fan of G19 sized guns due to the hump and where it sits in my hand. I figure I liked the way the backstrap felt for the G43 so I ordered one for my G48 MOS.
Happy, Happy, Joy, Joy 😀

I installed the new backstraps on my G43 and G48 MOS today. Removal of the original strap was not difficult. I was expecting it to be difficult because of the 3M double sided tape. I was able to pry it off with minimal effort.
The new G43 backstrap has a grippier texture. It feels really good when gripping the gun.
The G48 backstrap is the short version. They have a longer one. I just liked the way it appeared to basically fill in the back of grip so there’s no longer a hump.
I didn’t get to the range as I also had a bunch of other things to do. I’ll go tomorrow.

Looking good! Hopefully your experience in removing the backstrap is enough strength to hold it on reliably but easy enough to take it off when needed. I did testing on this and it took 23.5 lbs of force to remove, test results found here. For the strongest bond possible I would recommend cleaning the surface of the frame with rubbing alcohol to remove any oils before adhering the backstrap on. Your observation of removing the hump is right on point! This changes the grip angle from 22° to 18°, which matches a 1911 grip angle, this theoretically improves how you point and trigger alignment . This is a very interesting article on the importance of trigger alignment and grip angle. Again thank you for the detailed writeup and I'm looking forward to hearing how your range time goes!

I got to the range this morning and I am truly pleased with both guns with the new backstraps.

I have XXL hands. It is truly difficult for me to get and maintain a good two handed grip on the 43. My groups are usually pretty lame. I know it’s not a target pistol, but I was not impressed. I was seriously considering selling the 43 or giving it to my sister. Well, she’s gonna have to buy her own.

This target is 5 bullseyes. The top two were 7 shots at around 1 second per shot or a little less. The other 3 lower bullseyes were 7 shots in about 3 seconds for each bull. The shootingis not impressive but it is what it is. I had an “Oops” on the top left.

The backstraps on both guns kept the meaty part of my hand well clear of the slide when firing.

This in itself made the purchase of both backstraps worth the money.
The texture of both is “grippy”. I didn’t lose any real purchase on the grip by removing the Talon Grip rubber off the backstrap of the gun itself. The model for the G48 is much better than having the Talon Grip material up on the backstrap.

As you can see in this image the 43 is a bit small in my hand.

Also, with the backstrap filling in some of the grip it’s not awkward to transition from the finger outside but against the trigger guard to putting my finger on the trigger to shoot.

All in all, I am happy with both backstraps.
I got the G43 backstrap on EBAY.
I got the G43X/48 backstrap on Amazon.

Something else I wanted to mention:
The 3M VHB double stick tape is designed to increase its hold with time. I was able to remove the backstrap from the G43 with some effort, but not excessive effort.
I found this link when I was preparing to remove the first backstrap I had on the G43.

I bought one of these for my silver slide G48 shortly after he started selling them. No problems so far and I am about to buy a new blue label G48 w/rail so I need another.

He no longer sells on Amazon but he is on eBay and is planning on selling on his website soon.

I like this product a lot. My 48 no longer points high and the slightly lengthened trigger reach is perfect for my hands. I am also looking forward to the new version with the retention pin.

Edited to add: The texture on these is very grippy but is not in a location that will cause discomfort when carrying.
