With three versions, it's hard to say. The Glock 30 is a solid firearm with the only draw back being the frame is rather large. Of the first two, I like the Glock 30SF better because the frame, being shorter front to back, fits my hand better and it allows me to use other options (which are available for both these versions) such as the multiple caliber conversions, comfortably. If having all those different calibers available isn't a big deal, then the Glock 30S is king. It uses the 30SF frame and has the slimmer G36 slide which allows the use of holsters designed for the Glock 19 and 23 and makes it a better choice for carry. There's a little difference in recoil between the other two 30's and the 30S, but not enough to make a significant difference. If you plan on using this as a carry gun, the 30S is a great firearm.

Just received my choice the G30, yesterday. Sold one earlier and missed it. Not my warm weather carry gun. My 9's do that.
I do love shooting the G30 at the range.

Take a look at the collection of information about the G30/30SF/30S at Glock Talk at the library link shown in my signature line below. I believe there is some information that will be helpful to you in making a selection that is best for your intended purposes. One post in the library that concentrates on a comparison between the form and function of the three models, titled "The New Glock 30S - Pros and Cons", might be a good starting point for you.

My personal choice is the Glock 30 Gen4 after earlier owning a Gen3 G30SF and later field testing the Gen3 G30S when it was first introduced in 2013. I place a great deal of emphasis on versatility in calibers to serve a variety of purposes for personal defense and woods protection in a single pistol platform with excellent accuracy and control. I've gathered the conversion barrels, compensators, RSA springs and mags to shoot all the calibers listed in my signature line with a G30 Gen4. You really can't go wrong with any one of the three variations of the terrific Glock 30 pistol.

As may be noted from the information below, the calculated recoil of the heavier pistols is less than that of the lighter pistols. This suggests that the heavier pistols may shoot somewhat ‘softer’.

Always good to have objective data, though not sure it adds much to the practical aspect of carrying. While significantly impacting a day at the range, I doubt it would matter at all in a SD situation.

Thanks for posting that.

Of the ones I've had, I'd vote Gen4 Glock 30. They never made a 30S with a Gen4 frame sadly, so other than frankensteining one into existence, oh well.

I'm going to go with the Glock 30S. It is everything that a Glock 30 is, but with a slimmer slide profile that makes it much more comfortable for carry. The 30S has been my carry gun for going on 3 years now, mostly IWB at 3:30 and is just as comfortable as a Glock 19 or a 23.

The 30SF and the plain Glock 30 are too blocky IMO for all-day carry. The 30S has a little bit more recoil due to the reduced weight of the slide, but it is still both comfortable to shoot and manageable.

Glock 30 gen 4........slide width 1.12"

Glock 30sf...............slide width 1.12"

Glock 30s................slide width 1.00"

Not much difference, but a little.
The bottom line is they are all damn good pistols, and accurate as well.
The 30s does weigh 3.53 oz less than the other two (weight of gun with empty mag). Too late for me, I already bought the G30 gen 4 LOL.

I had a 30sf and it was an enjoyable range gun but too bulky for me to CC. I traded off the 30sf and eventually ended up with the g36. A much better size for carry. Not much more recoil and I shoot it quite well. The 30s wasn’t out when I was searching for a g30 solution and seems like an excellent gun.

I had and carried the Glock 30SF for several years, and IMO, it was a great shooting gun and the best .45 I ever shot. Having said this, I just needed something smaller and lighter to carry but I do highly recommend this gun!

I'll go with the G30S. Smaller grip, than G30, but full capacity with +1 extension, narrower slide to fit standard frame holsters.

Some clarification will be helpful to avoid confusion for anyone reading this discussion who may not be familiar with the history of the Glock 30. The original Glock 30 was first introduced in 1997. The grip of the original standard frame G30 has a trigger reach that is 2-3 mm longer than the Gen3 G30SF (Short Frame) introduced in 2008. The original standard frame G30 and G30SF are pictured below to show the difference in trigger reach of the two frames.

The Glock 30 Gen4 in production currently has the shorter trigger reach of the G30SF and G30S as well. After the introduction of the G30 Gen4 in 2012, Glock, Inc. discontinued production of the original standard frame Glock 30 in January, 2014. When others post about the Glock 30, it’s important to understand which version of the frame they are describing; the original standard frame now discontinued or the Gen4 version currently in production.

Without a backstrap adapter installed, the Glock 30 Gen4 has a grip with the shorter trigger reach and overall width and circumference equivalent to the Gen3 G30SF or G30S. Many claim the Gen4 grip “feels smaller” in their hand probably because of the uniform texture around the entire circumference of the Gen4 grip compared to the varying texture around the 30SF/30S grip. The G30S is a Gen3 G30SF frame topped with a slimmer, lighter slide and barrel originally designed for the G36 single stack 45ACP pistol.

I had both the G30 and the G30sf. Both shot fine and I could carry both concealed. I use a Simply Rugged Cuda holster. I am 5-11 213 pounds. I then found I could conceal the G21sf just as easy. I can shoot the G21sf much better. The only con is the G21sf is a little slower on the draw. Not a condemnation on the G30 platform just another point of view.
