I am a new member to Glock Talk and wish to thank Eric for helping me get my membership log-in fixed.

I have a 20 year old Glock 23 which I believe is V2 with original 13 round clips. I would appreciate knowing what basic upgrades you guys would suggest and what suppliers you would recommend. Your replies will be appreciated.

TB, thanks for the suggestion and I spent a few hours checking out the site and it is excellent! I found a great wealth of knowledge and got the info that I was looking for. Rock Your
Glock had everything for a basic re-fresh of my 23 Gen2 and I look forward to learning a great deal from being a member of
Glock Talk.

Mr. Jeff,

I depend on gen 2 models as my carry. When I get a new (to me) one, I completely strip it. Clean every corner, nook and cranny. Then I inspect each part as I reassemble the piece with every spring replaced.

For a range toy I'd just replace the recoil spring.

The old mags weren't bad, but I think the new mags are better (if that makes any sense). I'd recommend new mags and (as said above) a new recoil spring assembly.

If it still has the stock plastic sights, then a sight upgrade might also be a good idea. You can get plain steel sights with either a standard Glock (ball-in-the-bucket) sight picture, or Trijicon 3-dot non-night-sight sights (I have the 3-dot Trijicon non-night-sight on one Glock right now, they are not very exciting but work just fine). Night sights are a nice option, and the newer fiber-optic-type sights will give you a very vibrant sight picture when used in bright lighting conditions.

For years, my Gen2 was my primary carry but for the last few years, I changed to my 380 sub-compact. A few weeks ago, I decided to go back to the 23 and did a complete breakdown & clean up which prompted my question on upgrades. Your comment is appreciated.

Don't change a thing till you've put 1,000 rounds through it. Then you'll know what you can't live with.
Over the years, I have put 1000's of rounds through my 23 and I never had any issues! having not fired it for about 2 years, I thought it was time for an over-haul and found this thread to ask my original question. You guys have been just great with your replies!

Oh yes, the trigger. I forgot.

Whether you prefer the smooth trigger or stepped is up to you of course. But, the new trigger bar has a very important improvement. The point at which the trigger return spring attaches to it has been changed. The old point of attachment was part of the reason the springs would break and the change addresses that.

Just FYI.

Buy a case of ammo, save the brass, and buy a reloading setup.
Yeah, but I was a firearms specialist at Dick's back then and range ammo was very inexpensive, especially at my price. I
would collect the bass and give it to one of my work pals as he had the reloading set up. All of my recent Glock Talk got me to check on my ammo situation and I found that I still had boxes of 40 Cal Black Talons. Are they still allowed?
