Took out my brand new Glock 23 today. Put 150 rounds through it. 50 Winchester ranger 165 grain T series. 50 Speer 180 grain gold dots and 50 Remington UMC 180 grain FM J. It was 100% reliable.

if you already have a generation 3 or 4 is it worth upgrading? I would say, definitely yes. Because, it has a slightly thicker/heavier slide, combined with the dual recoil spring, the reduction in recoil and muzzle jump is significant. It shoots much softer than my generation 3 22 and the generation 4 23 that I used to have. Not to mention, the thicker, heavier slide should help reduce wear and frame battering. It’s unfortunate that typical Glock 19/23 holsters won’t work if they are Kydex. That said, since it’s a Glock, I would imagine holster manufactures will catch up and have them out shortly if they don’t already.

Thanks for the post.

Sounds awesome.

They lost me with the front slide serrations.

I use to believe the "newer" FS was the only way to go if you could choose between the first style Gen5 19 and the 19.5 with front serrations but now that I own both I've grown to like the early Gen5 19 better.

I think the non-serration looks better but it's more than about the looks it feels better and honestly more than that I can't put my finger on it why I like the non serration better but I do.

Does Glock still produce and sell the early non serration 19.5 model? I got mine right as it seemed they dissapeard and only the FS model to be found.

Nope, they made the switch to FS across the board and phased out the non-FS. Consider those to be another .5 generation and might be more collectable later down the road.

Not a fan of the heavier slides used in the .40 Gen 5 models. If the .40 is this bulky, then we can only surmise the .45 ACP Gen 5 will be even bulkier than what it already is when those come out. We'll probably have something looks like a Hi Point.

Or they're going to have to ditch the ambi slide stop to make room for the locking block pin again. Then I'm going to complain even more that the .40 doesn't have the locking block pin.

Anyone try a 32 357sig barrel in this gun yet?
They are not making a Gen5 32 yet, and the previous Gen barrels will not work. The Gen5 40s are thicker diameter and also thicker in the chamber as well. The previous Gen barrels will fit too sloppy/loose.

That said, I do have the Gen5 22 and 23... the heavier/fatter slide definitely changes the characteristics and the pistols do shoot softer than previous Gens.

still looking for mine.
I have to say I have been a shooting son of a gun here lately. Shooting my 22.3 and 22.4 back to back. there is a difference, however slight, to the Gen 4 being softer shooting. I suspect these Gen 5 will really help tame some of the recoil. I can't wait to get one. I may even settle on a 22 before long, I have wanted a gen 5 for so long - especially .40sw - the anticipation is killing me. I also wish they'd hurry up and release the other calibers already.
