Glock 22 - Gen 1 Value Question

Hello and thank you for reading my post, I appreciate it. I purchased a gen 1 glock 22 .40 sw about a year ago. I'm not looking to sell it, more so I am trying to get a better understanding as this is my first Glock (usually carry Beretta 92FS).

Assuming all models are in the same condition (very good to excellent), is there a difference in how much a Glock 22 Gen 1 is worth versus a Gen 2, and so on...?

If so, what are the differences in value?

Thanks again and shoot safe!

Not really other than personal preference for grip style. Personally, I love the Gen2s as shooters.

There might be some interest in the magazine to make it more valuable than new mags. It is pre-ban but not drop free.

If the internals have not been upgraded they would be valuable to collectors who need parts for Gen1 G17s or a unique/really early G22.

The wear pattern also looks like it was originally an LE gun so I would expect it was updated if manufactured Pre but too often they weren’t.

“The letters are the year/month it was made.”

This not correct.

The early guns had proof marks with a date code on the barrel. But the serial number itself is not keyed to the date month.
You mention you have an MN serial number but I think that is a 17. Did you mean an MO serial number prefix? If so, wondering if it is marked .40 S&W and if the mag baseplates and followers have number markings? Thanks

The slide is roll marked ".40". I have seen older .40 Glocks roll marked ".40 SW".

My Gen 2 G23 is BLZ (7/95) The slide is roll marked ".40 SW"

The OP should take that Glock to the range and enjoy it!!

Common mistake but also some sellers try to claim "first generation of that model" hoping buyers won't understand and overpay. As mentioned above in this thread, there was never a Gen1 version of the G22. Glock had already switched to the Gen2 frames when the G22 was released.

Gen1 can only be a 17, 17L and a few 19.

The model 22 wasnt introduced until after the Gen 2 19 and 17.
MO as the two letters appear to be the earliest Gen 2 model 22. Glock never manufactured a Gen 1 in .40 s&w.

Generation 1 models would be as follows, 17, 17L, 17LP, 17 Cutaway, 19 (exceedingly rare), and 18. The 18 also would be exceedingly rare. All of those are in 9mm.

Cadillac, is it possible that yours is an "NM" prefix, not an "MN." According to the GCA matrix, the first series of 22 was "NC" and, from other threads, it was marked only with ".40." There were a few thousand made before they moved to marking the "SW" for the caliber which stayed in place for a good portion of the Gen 2 run.

One other note for anybody interested: only the prototypes were made with two pins, and they quickly discovered the locking block needed reinforcement. So all .40 cal production guns should have three pins.

I found this label a little interesting. I have never seen the distinction of 1 10 round mag then 1 High (U) mag?

Figured I would contribute something other than being a smart ass.......

Is that an original factory label or a distributor? I have heard that they did resell a bunch of used trade-in mags during the ban era so it's possible they did that--but really odd that they would mix the two in one shipment.

What I understood at the time in the mid-90s (may be entirely wrong). LE trade went to Glock who sent out to dealers as “refurbished”. They got a box with a factory label. Because they were pre-ban guns, they could be sold with original mags. If they only had one original mag the 2nd had to be a 10rd.

My first Glock was a LE Trade-in “refurbished” G17 with two u-notch mags in a box with label. I’ll try to post a pic.
