Why not use a Glock 17 with a Trijicon SRO as an edc? Pros and cons?

Wrong. It can be carried for duty. Most optics get hit they will break. Look at the Suarez International video. SRO beat to hell. Glass broke. Still works. Define duty use. Passes the same tests as the RMR. And yes. There are those that use it for duty use. You mean to tell me a Holosun is tougher that a Trijicon SRO? Give me a break.

I have no issue with walking around with a 17 all day... I carried a Glock 22 for the better part of 20 years.

But man, I just don't have any love for Trijicon. SRO, RMR, ACOG... Everyone loses their minds over the brand, and I would rather have Holosun at half the cost, and a battery that removes without taking the optic off.

I DO have a DI RMR... And a TLR is more than enough to completely wash it out, making it useless the moment you flick the light on. Almost 600 bucks for an optic, and a 100 dollar flashlight kills it.

Meanwhile, my Holosuns are light up like Christmas Trees when I click.

Everyone's milage will vary...

Good point on the flashlight. I will have to test some of my pistols at night. I have a shadow systems with the Holosun and a Glock 19 with same. Both have a TLR 7A attached to them. Appreciate the information.

I carry the G17 and yes I am a bigger fella… but I don’t see that the half inch difference the length of the 19 will make. Same thickness, less than a half oz difference as well…

what exactly am I missing? ive had the G17 for 20 years.. light shown on it here when it’s bedside use and I EDC my S&W.

I CC a 34 with ACRO and TLR1HL. I carry appendix. A good holster for appendix carry will often be 34 length, so I figured why not. The light also brings the gun length to 34 length.
I am a bigger guy and find this fine to CC. The added length aids to reduce grip pitch.
I CC an SRO in a BROS on my Staccato P. I like the window size quite a bit. The BROS takes care of any fragility concerns.

I use the SRO because I have 81 year old eyes that are scheduled for cataract surgery. Hope the alleviates some of the eye problems. As far as not supposed to be for tactical duty use - hey I am not running up and down sand dunes, chasing bad guys in alleyways, fighting with hordes etc Those days are over. . I don't hang with stupid people, go stupid places and do stupid things winning stupid prizes. Pretty sedentary sort of life now. So with out any rough stuff occurring I think the SRO will do just fine by me.

Keep kicking ass at 81 and whatever makes you feel empowered, I say go for it!

The 17 and the SRO are both solid pieces of equipment and make perfect sense for your needs.

as mentioned, this might be worthwhile for your SRO

The SRO offers a big window, but the glass will break if dropped on a hard surface. It will still show the dot on the shattered glass and get the job done. The RMR is reinforced to better protect the glass at the cost of smaller window and more obstruction.

For those that say the SRO isn’t duty rated, that isn’t to say it isn’t a tough optic. For sure not as rugged as the RMR, but the trade off of window size and user friendly features do make up a lot for that. There are many LEOs that use SROs daily and there aren’t many reports of SROs failing catastrophically in the line of duty.

I have adopted the Aimpoint Acro as my carry optic, until I started using it I knew the difference vs open emitter and for me it does make a difference. if my Acro gets dirty I just wipe the window and I'm GTG vs with the open emitter something gets in there it would more complicated to clean debris or oil, etc.
