All,

Last week, I made a trade with a buddy of mine. He told me he had a Glock 17 Gen 3 in excellent shape, 2 mags and box/paperwork. I trusted him and made a trade on a stock P365 w/ two mags. I was actually planning on turning the Glock, as the 17's around here sell well.

He showed up at my office with this gem. At first I didn't know what it was. I do remember seeing a few of these style Glocks (Glock 22's) on Armslist for outrageous prices, but never in person. I used to own a Glock 32 Gen 3 a long time ago with this slick finish and I loved it. Sold it as ammo was getting expensive and that was 4-5 years ago.

Anyway, I've been doing a lot of searching and reading up on this Glock. The grip is amazing. I wish my Gen 5 MOS 19 had this same RTF texture. I have read that these were only produced for 8 months? Does anyone know the amount produced? My Serial # is NGX8xx, Can anyone tell me the possible date range this will fall in? I mean beginning/middle/end of production of this 17? Box label matches all 3 #'s, has the fired shell casings signed with matching #. I was told round count is exactly 300. Judging by the lack of wear, I believe it. It still has the original receipt where my buddy purchased it locally. Weapon has never left Oklahoma.

Last question. It has the stock Glock sights. I'm thinking about installing some Trijcon HD's with a yellow front post. I'd love to make it a shooter, but I'm a little hesitate. If this is possibly a collector Glock, I'd love to hang onto it. It won't be carried, but I do shoot alot. It's got a forever home now. I noticed that at some point, it has had a tight light or laser attached to the rail. I can see some road rash on the rail portion of the weapon. That may kill any value it has and therefore a nice shooter?

Thanks in advance

I’d say yours falls in the beginning of the production. The envelope with the fired case will give you the date.
I’d guess 2009. My NST prefix was June 2010. The product run for the 17/19 was shorter than the 22/23. 14 months vs 18 if I remember correctly. There are less 17s than the 22/23, but even less 19s from what I can tell.

There was another run in 2017 and you can still find some new ones. The slide finish is different. Yours has the slick “ frying pan” finish.
A very nice early one should appreciate more in the future than a later one. For that reason I made a shooter out of a 2017 version. You have to decide what works best for you, putting it back or shooting it.

I also swapped to a grey rtf frame. It gets a bit of attention in some of the classes.

Great trade, IMO.
If it was me, I’d make it a shooter. I don’t think glocks lose much just by shooting them. It’s not nib.

I have a G22 with the RTF2 finish... It's an NTZ serial number, and came from a LEO trade-in, along all the original stuff in the box and the hand receipt from where it was issued to a Louisiana deputy sheriff in December 2010. 3 magazines (with the "LEO-only" full capacity magazines) and Glock night sights, which still work. I had it checked out by our local Glock Armorer, and it's a shooter... although I do treat it like a keepsake and bring it out for special occasions ;-)

You got a great deal.I have a new RTF2 G17 that I have been offered $850.00 for but for now I just leave it in my safety deposit box.I sometimes carry a G23 rtf 2 that is very sweet but I had to put a pachmyr tactical grip sleeve on it because it was tearing up my skin.

THE most rare production Glock of all.
Thanks for reminding me! The one collector on the forum that focuses on C models looking for one that resides in the hands of non C collectors ;)
