The evolution of perfection / to push consumers to the G47 MOS?

I dunno. I do suspect that Glock would like to standardize on just a few frames, though, and a move toward the 47 frame would be a move in that direction even if the non-MOS 17 Gen5 is not yet LE-only.

The G47 makes the G17 Gen 5 MOS redundant. GLOCK probably needs to service LE contracts with the G17 Gen 5 MOS, but going forward it will push consumers into the G47.

 

The G17 Gen5 MOS is again available for non LE agency purchase. It had been paused for awhile but that policy recently changed. The G47 is a solution looking for a problem.

 

It depends on which guns you have or plan to own. If you want a G34 and a service model sized gun, the G17 makes more sense. If want a G19 and a service model gun, then the G47 probably makes more sense. It can help limit which parts you keep on hand and give you some flexibility to change configurations, which may appeal to some.

They are quite literally the same gun, except for the weight.

The only real difference is the G47 has a slightly shorter dust cover because it uses the G45 frame and the slide is configured similar to a G34 slide that extends past the frame end of the frame, which probably accounts for the weight difference. The extension allows the slide to accommodate the G19/G45 RSA. It’s one of the ways the G47 is able to share parts with the G19 and G45. The profile of the G17 and G47 is basically the same.

 

I kind of would like a Glock 47. It maybe my next purchase. I have 2 Glock 19’s, so I could have a 17 sized gun, a 45 sized gun, a 49 sized gun, and my 19. One of my 19’s is a mos version, and the first one I bought is not.
Now if Glock with cut the grip of a 19, we could have a 26L or a 26XL.

 

If you had any inclination to own a G17, you’re better off with the G47. I also have the G19 and G45, so I went with the G47 over the G17. I’ve owned a couple G17 Gen 5s in the past, but the G47 made more sense to me now. I don‘t need to swap the slides, but having to stock less parts appealed to me. I recently stocked up on RSAs that I saw on sale. I do like the look of the G47 a little more than the G17, and it’s a model I didn’t own.
