Gen5 vs FN 510 MRD

I loved my gen 5 Glock 20 until I bought the FN 510 MRD 10mm.

Ever since I added a red dot to my FN 510 and with FN's new conical striker the trigger is 4.3lb and crisp as a Walther PPQ.

Taking both to the range I was doing quick double taps at 30ft, 50ft, and 75ft using IDPA targets. The FN at 30ft was getting alpha/alpha, at 50ft mostly Alphas/alpha some alpha/Charlie's. And at 75ft alpha/Charlie some Charlie/Charlie but was very accurate. The g20 unfortunately with iron sights was very inconsistent and results were not good. I e. Atv 75 feet got Delta/Delta, a alpha/delta etc..iron sights at 75ft is tough.

I was thinking if I install an overwatch precision flat trigger probably improve shootability but the trigger is still mushy. I think a red dot on it will make it better but with a trigger that has some drag like the Glock getting deltas is an unfortunate reality.

That said I regret buying the g20 but for a night stand gun guess it will be ok

Same thing happened to me, except mine was the 320 XTen.
My G20 is now lonely

I’ve left the FN510 alone, I believe it though. I’m obsessed with my FNX .45 tactical
I've heard a lot of great things about the fnx tactical but the reason I don't carry 45 ACP is because 10 mm you can really have great flexibility the HST 200 grain is just slightly more powerful than a 45 ACP plus p but the 200 grain HST for 10 mm has over 550 lb of energy and expands fully and penetrates to 17 in every shot. The problem with 45 ACP a lot of times they fail to penetrate deep enough

The FN 510 was clearly not a favorite when I bought it but after getting used to the Red Dot and putting talon grips thing is phenomenal shoots absolutely terrific very fast very accurate with the Red Dot

Glad to hear the FN is working out for you! I'd honestly like to shoot all the polymer 10's side by side and see how they felt under live fire.

Have you pushed the XTen with some Buffalo Bore, Underwood, or Double Tap ammo? Just curious as to how it handles those rounds.

I wish FN would offer the FNX Tactical in 10mm. I know they are a little bulkier but I prefer shooting a hammer fired pistol over a striker fire. Looks to me like a FNX in 10mm would potentially be a solid option.

At the SHOT show that made me in the works. The reason I don't like Hammer fired is because very concealed and arms are going to have to go really high up to get your weapon out costing you valuable time and then the first shot will be slower than these striker fire and then firework shots cause your grip slightly change growing up your second shot of course with ample time you can correct on the fly but you need to get off three or four quick shots that's going to slow you down

Wish the GPT worked in the large frames but it does not. I did have one working in a large frame but that was with a modified trigger arm.

Get a JG Vex or Ranger Proof Vex. Check the rear sear engagement with an armorer's plate. You may need to slightly bend the cruciform up for 100% engagement with your weapon. While you are checking on the sear engagement, get a small screwdriver or pick and press down on the cruiciform to make sure the weapon is still drop safe. The Vex will completely change your experience with your G20. Sounds like the long trigger pull is causing issues for you.
