Agreed, my Gen3 17 is excellent. I have a lot of confidence in mine, simple, accurate and reliable.

The gen5 17 is just as nice, with modular grip pieces, and more mechanically robust (less likely to break the parts on the gen3 that were most prone to break - trigger spring, slide stop spring and slide lock spring). FYI

 

I took my Gen 3 G17 to church with me this morning. I usually carry a SA Hellcat but I have the Psalm 23 back plate in my 17. Plus in this day and age of targeting Christian’s I opted for 17 rounds and a spare mag. With that 17 I feel comfortable in being able to “noodle shoot” a terrorist across the seating area. Easter and Christmas find the 17 in my Crossbreed IWB holster.

 

Probably one of the best pistols ever made! Don't ever sell it!

 

I purchased my first Glock in 2002. The only 17 my lgs had was a 9/11 commerative. I've owned several other Glock models in .45 acp and .40 s/w, but the 17 is the only Glock I still own. I had it out to the range a couple of weeks ago.
Good shooter, too big for CC imo, but a great range and home defense pistol.

 

Gen 3 guns are awesome, and the 17 is one of my favorites. Probably one of the nicest polymer fullsize 9mms to shoot, too.

Gen 3 guns may have had some really rare, minor issues, but they're the gun that got deployed to the GWOT. They established even more positive track record and reputation, there. I'm sure Gen 4 and 5 are decent, but the Gen 5 changes, to me, were underwhelming. To each their own.

 

My first Glock was a Gen3 and was my favorite until the 19.5 came out. Still have the 17.3, though.

 

I have a gen 3 Glock 17 that feels like it's cheating when I shoot with it.

 

My original GLOCK purchase was a 17 Gen3 but after a few months I thought the 19 would be better so traded the 17 for the 19.
Wrong move!
Wasn't long till I replaced the 17 Gen3. Now I have the 17, 19 and 26 and I'm completely happy.

 

I use a Gen 3 17 for GSSF. It still shoots well and is accurate enough for 10 ring performance if I do my job.

 

My first Glock was a Gen 3 23, friggin loved it. I ended up buying the 17 right after that. Still have them both.

Here is my Glock 17 Gen 3 set up. I like it.

 

Yep I have several, but I found a HKG prefix slide on line, then a KHD barrel. With plenty of spare slide and frame parts, I found a stripped Gen-3 frame on Gunbroker, DRV prefix and put it all together.
My Franken-trunk gun.
Works just fine.

 

I prefer Gen 3.
