Let's talk about this... So when did production start? Did they start with non ported barrels first or ported? How many non ported and ported were made? What prefix serial numbers started with non ported and ported? We're they more non ported barrel production made then ported?

Sorry for the brevity but....

My understanding based on reading and conversations is that there were three runs of 1000 Gen 1 17 L guns:

DA Imported 4/88

DB Imported 7/88

ED Imported 3/89

Of the 1000 guns in each run supposedly approx 25% of them were ported.

The ported barrels were prone to cracking. If one sent a cracked ported barrel back to Glock they'd send out an unported one. This further decreased the number of ported vs non.

They were shipped with 3.5 pound triggers. This was noted on the sticker on the box.

I have two ported and one non. I'd be happy to post any desired detailed pics of the gun, accessories, box etc if you or anyone is interested.

Needless so say, if one has a ported one and wishes to shoot it buy an extra non-ported barrel.

Others please chime in with any more info. These are fantastic guns which are very much worthy of discussion.

Could b a perfect gun, just non factory finish. A GT member recently picked up a similar gun.

Back when I first got into shooting 9mm, I picked up a G-17
To shoot GSSF matches. After my first match, I ran across a G-17L, and picked it up.
I don't if it was a gen1 or 2.
I was new to shooting Glocks, and had no idea how to fix them. After 30-50 rounds it would start acting up, mostly double feeds. I would take it home and field strip it and clean, she was good for another 30-50 rnds. and start to act up.
I carried it back to the next gun show, and a guy offered me more than I gave for it. I told him I just wanted what I had in it, and how it would do. He gave me what I paid for it and left.
Now knowing what I have learned about them I would never have sold it, just replaced springs and shot it.
But live and learn. I had not found this forum.
It could have been an early gen 1, or worth twice what I had in it ???
