Hi, All. New here. Got my first Glock (G20) last November.. I have heard about drop-in barrel caliber conversions but know little about the topic. Specifically, I'm looking at a G27 Gen 2 and am thinking about getting a .357 Sig barrel for it. Is this considered good practice, and if so, can anyone suggest a brand/model? I realize this probably isn't the right forum for this question so I'd be grateful if someone would point me to the right discussion. Thanks in advance. And thanks to PattonWasRight for suggesting I post my question here.

I've been shooting my G27 Gen 2.5 with an old Lone Wolf made 357 sig conversion barrel for more than 10 years.
It's never been a problem.
A friend uses a newer Lone Wolf (Alpha Wolf) conversion barrel for his 357 sig shooting.
I also have a Glock made 357 sig barrel.
I've got what I wanted for this purpose and I'm not sure what is currently available because I stopped buying them many years ago.

Just to be certain place a call to GLOCK give them your G27s serial# to be sure that frame has no issues with the higher pressure 357sig... It is most likely fine but it never hurts to to be sure.

+ 1 for a serial number check with Glock.

I have owned and currently own Glocks in 40 S&W and gone the conversion route, I've had a couple different 9mm conversion barrels for the various Glocks I've owned from different manufacturers, never a problem.

currently I have a Gen 4-23 which I purchased a stock Model 32 barrel in 357 Sig for it directly from Glock, I also have a Storm Lake 40 to 9mm conversion barrel.

all I do when running 357 Sig is drop the 32 barrel in and use the 40 S&W mags, both for the 23 and the 22 models, with a barrel swap in your 27, you could use mags for the 27, 23 and the 22 or 33, 32 and the 31.

for 9mm, just a barrel swap and I use Glock 9mm mags for both the 19 and the 17, with a 9mm conversion barrel in your 27 you could use mags for the 17, 19 and the 26.

I've shot literally 10s of thousands of 9mm rounds, mostly reloads with cast/lubed or cast/coated bullets, in the near 20 years I've owned Glocks. I usually buy a Glock in 357/40 and get a conversion barrel, my current EDC is a 43 X MOS, if it had come in 357/40, I would have bought in either caliber and got a 9mm conversion barrel for it.

I also have a Accurate Arms 22 LR conversion for my 23 I bought a few years before the 44 came available, I don't think its a good as the 44 due to a big change in the trigger pull on my 23 when converting to 22 LR, but it is a little more accurate and as reliable as my 44 with the right ammo.

Thanks everyone. To be clear I'm talking about a prospective purchase, here. That said, I called Glock, gave them the serial #, and they told me it was a "Gen 2.5" made in 1996, and that for my purposes it's a Gen 3 and good to go re a drop 357 barrel.

Again, thanks for the help and suggestions.

KKM are the best aftermarket barrels but the 357 sig barrels for the Glock aren't really conversion barrels and will drop right in and Glock even approves of the practice and you can use the same magazines for both cartridges except for some of the early magazines.

I have a G23 with a Glock G32 barrel and a KKM 40-to-9 conversion barrel and I use G19 and G17 magazines with the KKM barrel and I've had 100% reliability with all 3 barrels. I carry with the 40 caliber barrel an djust use the 9mm barrel for shooting the cheaper ammo and the 357 Sig just for fun. I consider teh 357 and the 40 to be about equal for defensive use but The 357 Sig has too much muzzle blast to be used indoors for home defense or any situation where you mightend up in closed quarters or a motor vehicle.

I've converted my G-27 and my G-22 to 357 Sig and have 9mm barrels as well. I get better accuracy with the 357 barrels. As others have said, it's been a while and I don't remember the brands (I have several).

For what its worth all G27 models should be good for 357 sig as they are all made with 3 pin frames. The Glock 26, 27,33,and 39 models were never made as 2 pin frames untill the current gen 5 models. So rest easy making a gen 2.5, 3, or gen 4 conversion into a 357 sig.

Interesting article about Glock barrels with polygonal rifling from “Ballistics by the Inch.”

I have a Glock 32 Gen3. I use the Glock barrels when I switch between .40 and .357. My 9mm conversion barrel is from Lone Wolf. I’ve had good luck with all of these barrels, but the .357 is the most accurate…particularly at distance.

Long range accuracy is especially good with the 357 Sig because of it's flat trajectory. It's a lot of fun shooting at 100 yards and beyond.

One brand I like that is full power is Fiocchi .357 142 gr FMJTC. It's rated at 1420 fps but I've never chronographed it. Another load that's a lot of fun is the Underwood 65 grain 357 sig. it's rated at 2100 fps but chronographed at an an average of 1950-2000 fps out of my 4 inch G32 Glock barrel. What's fun about it is that it has less recoil than normal 125 grain ammo.. And while I'm pretty much a heavy bullet guy and dubious about the advantages of the Phillips-head ammo compared to top quality controlled expansion ammo, the rifle-like velocities this ammo is capable of impresses even me. But it is LOUD and I wear double ear protection, ear plugs and ear muffs, when shooting any 357 Sig ammo.

one other thing that you may want to consider is that the compact barrel can be used in the sub compact models, that is to say that with the 27 you can not only use the Glock 33 barrel in 357 but you can also use both the Glock 23 barrel in 40 and the Glock 32 Barrel in 357 due to both the compact and the sub compact using the same locking block and slide engagement, with this you'd get a little over 1/2" additional barrel stick out the slide.

it can also be said that any conversion barrel for the 23/32 will fit in the 27 and even a 23/32 long barrel, the length of a 17, 22 and 32 or longer can be used as long as it fits the 27/33/23/32, may not be significant in other calibers but the 357 really shines in a longer barrels.
