G26x?

I like the G26 but the grip is just too tiny. Why wouldn’t Glock make a G26x to have a short-barreled double-stack that you can get three fingers onto in their lineup? The G43x seems to be working out great for them.

Once I learned to wrap my pinkie under the mag, the 26 turned into a totally different gun. I get a better, stronger grip on the gun than I did with the mag extensions and I don't give up its compactness and whole point, a smaller gun.

The middle and ring finger are what give your grip strength, and you don't loose anything there by wrapping your pinkie under. Ive always been annoyed with the 19's grip because it's too cramped and my pinkie never feels right. Same thing with the mag extensions on the 26. The pinkie actually seems to interfere with getting a good grip on those guns, where on the 26 (42 and 43), with it wrapped under the mag, its out of the way and doesn't interfere.

When I first handled a G26, I didn’t like it. I could barely get two fingers on the grip, which made it feel terrible in my hands. Many years later, I revisited the G26 because I needed a subcompact to use in matches. Rather than use the flush mags, I tried the gun with the GLOCK OEM +2 mag extension and my impression of the gun completely changed. The extensions allowed me to get a full firing grip and I found the gun to be very accurate, pleasant to shoot, and versatile. You can get an X-Grip sleeve to use with a G19 mag and you’ll have a full firing grip. The G26 has become one of my favorite guns. Despite how much I now like G26, I would have bought one sooner were it a G26X.

15 round mag with an X-Grip or generic sleeve and there's the 26X.

The hardest part to conceal of a pistol is the grip. The barrel and slide is the easiest. I would not want to give up the super small grip of a 26 even with mag extensions.

Another poster mentioned the wrap the pinky under the magazine bottom plate to get a better purchase on the frame and I'd agree. If you find the grip still too much to control you can do what I did and just add the large beaver tail and back strap. Not only does that deglockify the odd grip angle and makes it more inline with a proper 1911 presentation it also gives more real estate for a solid two finger hold. If you have found there to be too much recoil for you in 9mm I would suggest some hand strengthening exercises and or a mag extension of some kind.

Just me but I feel it defeats the purpose of a small gun to have an extended grip, either factory or by using a magazine extension. I can curl my pinky under the grip of my G26 and get a good two handed grip. I carry at 3:00 and the shorter the butt the better when it comes to my seat belt. I tried a 43 and a 43X but came back to the 26 for concealed carry. To each his own though.

The biggest advantage to the 26 is, it will go places on your body the 19 wont. If you're going to make it bigger by adding a larger mag, might as well just get the larger gun. None of them are hard to conceal or carry in normal clothes. But if you want to go that one level deeper, the 26 as it comes, is the way you want to go.

Before you spend a lot of money trying to figure this all out, Id spend some time, both in dry fire and live fire, shooting it with your pinkie wrapped under the mag. Like anything else, things don't usually magically just work, and it takes a little getting used to. And putting in the time and effort to prove one way or the other if something works or not, is the only way I know to actually figure things out. More often than not, you see people just give up way too quickly and declare things will never work, without ever really trying or making a serious effort to figure things out.

Like most things I imagine it's a matter of practice and getting used to it. The G26 replaced my S&W 637 as my pocket carry gun, as such I'll never have any need for a MOS version or an extended grip.

Might the 43X be the solution you're looking for?

The grip is typically the hardest feature of a belt-scabbarded handgun to conceal, so a shorter grip can ease concealment issues (and often ease comfort, with less grip frame pushing against a side). Granted, the slide/barrel length may become an issue for some folks, depending on whether a holster is so long that it pushes upward on the belt-line when someone is seated, lifting the holster.

The primary reason I bought a G26 instead of a G19 when I decided to add Glock to my off-duty weapon options was the short size of the grip frame. I'd learned as a revolver that excessive pressure brought to bear by my little finger could affect my grip technique (especially when using the revolver plowshare handle designs), so my primary master hand shooting technique had long become a thumb and 2-finger grip (middle and ring finger). That meant when shooting taller gripped pistols I no longer exerted as much attention and pressure to my little finger. Shooting guns with shorter grip frames simply allowed me to shift my thumb under or below the front strap.

I do have a few +0 Pearce curved floorplates, but I primarily use them as spares, as the longer front curved portion is handy for aiding positive insertion and seating under some reloading conditions when running the short G26 & G27.

Will Glock a G26X? Who knows? How would it be any better than a G43X or G48, though? Want a G19 grip frame, with a G19 magazine? The G19 is an easy answer.

Thank you all for the feedback. I think I’ve been talked into the G26. I’m sold on the versatility and think I might get used to a 2 finger grip. I’ll try it with stock 10 rounders, pick up a GeePlate to try and maybe get an X-Grip to slide onto a G19 or G17 mag. I can even imagine carrying it with a stock mag with a G17 with X-Grip as the spare. If I need to reload then I’ll probably want 17 rounds.

I carry with the gee plate. It locks your hand in better than a 19. very stable shooting platform too.

but why lengthen the butt? The appeal to me of a 26 is no print. I use a 19 length holster anyway, I’d grab my 19. Depends how you carry of course.

Because having a longer grip on the 26 defeats the point of the 26: being small to conceal anywhere on the person. Another great benefit is its versatility: being able to fit any mag into it to suit my needs. 15-rds, 17-rd, and even the extra-high capacity mags like 24 and 33.

I don’t think a 26X has enough of sales potential anyway (which is probably the real reason Glock won’t make one: who would buy it, and is that enough to warrant the investment to make another model). Not many like the 26 nowadays, and a lot of people say its obsolete with those fancy Micro-9s that are smaller and carry the same rounds or more. I remember the Bass Pro sales guys (yeah I bought it there… I was a newbie) took one good look at it and laughed, ”No thanks!” They held gold in their hands and never knew it!

I like my 26 because of its versatility. 10-rd standard. 12-rd OEM. 15-rds for backup for ”exciting locations.” 17-rds for those ”You picked the wrong house, fool!” occasions. And those 33-rd mags for a giggles at range time. Even when I had my doubts about it when I first bought it, there was something magical about it I just couldn’t figure out. Yeah, figuring out the 2-finger grip technique took some time. As did learning to shoot the thing without it biting my finger and giving me blisters. But I did. Now I really appreciate it. It just does what I need a gun to do. Be a good dang gun, for whatever and whenever I need a good dang gun.

I tried replacing it with a Shield Plus. No dice, just wasn’t the gun for me. I fondled P365s and other micros in the LGS, but nothing felt right. The G43X felt great, and so I bought one. Maybe it can replace my G26; probably not. I think they both have their places.

You gotta find the right gun for you!

I’d love a 26x. I understand that you lose the concealment that the 26 offers, but I also conceal my 19.5 and 19x quite well. I had a 26 a few years ago. It was actually the first 9mm Glock I ever purchased, traded it for a used 19.3 and have come close to buying a 26.5 a few times and still may. But I’ve seen a few “26x” builds on Instagram annd such and I’d buy one if offered from the factory just because. I have several 26 mags that I kept because I actually bought a Kel-tec sub2000 around the same time and cut the grip down so it would take 26 mags. Sounds like I need to buy a 26 anyway
