So this is a two part question for all you guys that know whole lot more about Glocks than I do.

First, what are the differences between the G17L vs. G34? Was it just a name change?

Second, can I take a G17, go on Lone Wolf and buy a G17L or G34 Slide/Barrel/what other parts?

Question is because I'd like to make a 9mm Glock that has the 4 internal ports and 2 external, (Really hoping they can give me 4 internal and then a thread, but we'll see.) I'd need to buy a new G17/G17L/G34 so I'm wondering the cheapest route. I'd like to keep this project safe so if there is any safety concerns with converting the G17 let me know, I can spare the extra bucks if it means safety. Thanks in advance! Hope I wasn't long winded :whistling:

The G34 barrel would work in a G17, first hand experience and LWD will tell you the same but the G17L is slightly different so it won't fit correctly. There is a post about someone doing G34 barrel in the G17 with pics a few days ago

You have been provided incorrect information. Both the G34 and G17L barrel will fit and function in a G17. The G34 is about 0.75 inches longer than a G17 and the G17L is about 0.75 inches longer than a G34. Factory G34 and G17L barrels are not ported, although there was a run or two of G17L's with factory ported barrels in 1988. I have a Gen1 G17L with factory ported barrel.

Thank you, those were the exact numbers I was looking for. If I start with a G17, and I throw a G17L Slide/Barrel on it will I need to replace anything else. Talking about Gen3 here.

One of our armorers called LWD about this a few years back and thats what they told our armorer, if its incorrect then oops we got some bad info, thanks for correcting it and thats why forums like this are a benefit.

G17, G17L and G34 frames and internals are identical. Only the top ends are different, and the only differences are length.

The frame for all their are mechanically (dimensions) the same.

The upper is where the difference is. I have seen these three side by side before, and inspected them at length, and in great detail.

Awesome, good news all around :) Thanks guys!

Top ends, being barrel and slide right? <--Dumb question I know but I'd rather not forget something important.

1. G17L is longer and is not a regular production run model. It has a 6" barrel and is noticeably longer than the G34 that tapers off at the 5.32 barrel. ....edit

2. Yes. The G34 and G17L slides work on a G17 frame. They are variants of the G17.

For your project, I guess I'd get a G34 since most stuff is geared towards it these days. I know people do have problems with porting the G34 if they are using mouse fart loads, but that's common sense type stuff.

Yeah I wouldn't be using anything less than +P+ in it for that reason.

If your going to get a barrel that has 4 internal ports and two external ports you will need to have some slide cuts done if you use a 17.

The 34 or 17L already have this done.

Yeah, if I put internal ports on a non cut slide I might be up for a Darwin award...

Very nice :) Oh, and I guess it got over read but, with a G17 to start, if I put a G17L barrel and slide on top, nothing else would need to be changed correct...

lol, I've seen a guy at the range who did it. He was complaining about how dirty his gun always was after only a few rounds and that it kept jamming, we had a look and saw the barrel :wow:
