Just curious what you folks here think of this YouTube series. Deputy Sheriff Frank Sloup's channel with videos of him stopping speeders.

It is interesting to watch.

The YouTube link below is just one of a lot of videos. It is the typical YouTube gotcha title, he doesn't actually get assaulted.

(I am not related to him or the channel in any way)

I have watched several clips of it. And although entertaining I do not see it as beneficial for anyone other than to give some laughs. Understand, I work in LE and do the same work he does and I myself do not completely agree eith how he handles himself on traffic stops.

I’m not saying he is rude but he does come across as belittling people at times, and no I do not mean all the time. I don’t tell people that their excuses for speeding or whatever the infraction is are “silly” and I don’t joke with people on traffic stops. I am polite and treat everyone the same regardless of who they are or what they do or what they did ect.

I agree with the above, the minute that this job becomes a form of comedy entertainment at the expense of the person being stopped and potentially given a citation it has no place for others to gain humor at their expense. I put myself in their shoes, if I got stopped and was told that I was being “silly” because I did not know what the speed limit was in an area I would feel belittled

I’ve interacted with the man through work and trainings. That’s his typical demeanor. So at least it’s genuine.

He is very NY sarcastic that’s for sure. Seems like good PR for the police, which is def something they need in this day and age. As to tactics, well that’s a different channel.

Exactly my feelings. I'm professional and polite on traffic stops, I find him being a dick for no reason.

He's a total dick, but he's my kind of dick (nohomo). He talks **** with a smile on his face and recipients take it as humor, when in fact it is truth. Pretty much how I conduct operations.

I enjoy the show, but also appreciate that the episodes are short.

Damn, this is my first CT post in like 5+ years...

His content doesn’t interest me. I’m officer friendly until I’m not.

If he is looking for more than just traffic enforcement, his style works. The more engagement of the occupants, the more you will find…for him, it appears shares, likes, and subscribes are a part of what he’s looking for.

My opinion only here:
Social media is useful for LE for providing information to the public. When it crosses the line to entertainment I don’t much care for it for a number of reasons.
Absolutely. Anywhere I ever worked or supervised, posting work related activity to the internet would get your ass fired in a New York Second.

I am as sarcastic as the day is long but he does come across as belittling people on nearly every interaction.
and he sure loves to say that speeding is CRIMINAL!!
I welcome him to come to SC, where 20 over is the norm not the extreme. He'd burn his blue lights out. and miss all the ones doing 30+ over.

He must be a revenue machine for his SO.
I was thinking the opposite. Here the city keeps about $5 of every ticket. The rest goes to the state. It costs more in labor to issue and process a ticket for us than any hope of generating money.

Our judges are notorious for finding violators responsible but charging no fine. So even what little money we did make to help pay my overtime rate for showing up is gone and time wasted.

I doubt any jurisdiction gets to keep anything outside of a pittance. Normally it all goes back to the state's general fund, or earmarked for courts.

I’m a fan, too. I honesstly don’t know how he maintains his cool sometimes. Obviously, he knows he’s on camera, but still…..
