FN Reflex. Thoughts?

So, I've got a p365 .380 and p938 9mm. Both small & light enough for carry, which I do, but the 938 maxes out a what, 7 rounds, and the 365 is a .380.

I've decided I need a 9mm that is 1. small / light enough to carry 2. Can take larger (over 10 round) mags once I move to do double duty as a house gun. Much as I like the P2000SK, it doesn't do either of these very well.

So, I've become quite smitten with the FN Reflex: good size, good grip, good weight, good trigger, good sights. Any reason why I shouldn't get this, though it seems to be my "Goldilocks" pistol at the moment?

I'm also interested, in theory, in the S & W CSX E-series 3.6". I've yet to see one, though, and wasn't totally thrilled with the first version. Between the first version from a couple years ago and the Reflex, I definitely prefer the Reflex.

There is a lot to like about the FN Reflex. I love their "grenade" pattern on the frame/grip. The Reflex uses an internal hammer, IIRC and there is some concern about the safety with that, though it may be just internet pontificating about it. Gun Tests tested it and gave it an "A" rating and considered it a "Best Buy."

You could probably score one for a very good price if you were a cash buyer today. Just because a gun is not selling like wildfire doesn't it mean it isn't worth it. Some guys love the Kimber Mako even though I've never met a single person who owns one.

I assume the G19 is larger than you want? And the G43X's OEM capacity is lower than you want?

I own both the Reflex and the Mako, love both. The Mako is my current bedstand gun. Recent American Rifleman review on the new Kel-Tec 5.7 pistol, the author happened to mention the Mako is his EDC. Not a review, just a passing comment I found interesting.

I’m also curious why you wouldn’t do the P365? Could use same holsters. Could put an X frame on it, or just use extended magazines with spacers.

But I’m sure the Reflex would serve you just fine if you’re interested in a different gun. Have at it!

I was just shooting my Reflex today. It is small with a great trigger. It’s really starting to grow on me. I’m carrying a P365 XL as I type this. I say get it. I have more guns than I ever needed. But I’m glad I have them. The new HK CC9 is worth a look too.

I almost bought a Reflex when they came out. I handled one with at the LGS and the grenade texture was a no go for me. I loved everything else about it, however it didn't do anything better than my Hellcat as far as size, capacity, or texture so I passed. The one concern I have about FN is that they come out with a new model then abandon the platform 5 years down the road. Maybe I'm wrong. I do still glance at the Reflex in stores now and then. It's a nice package.

I do not own a Reflex, but I am intrigued by them. Out of the micro 9’s I prefer the hellcat over the 365 (own both), mainly because I like that the safety plunger engages at the front of the striker, and not the striker foot. Odds of that making a difference are pretty much 0, but I carry appendix and want every odd in my favor 😅

The Reflex seems well-liked by most who have them even though they are less common.
11+1 rounds. Mag options for backup or switching to house-mode include 15 or 18.

The SIG you're already familiar with so you should have a feel for what it would be like in 9mm. Still 10+1 like your .380 version. Backup/house mags can be 12, 15, 17, or 21.
And, of course, you can swap out for all kinds of grip module options.

I have a Reflex. For full disclosure it is up in the classifieds but not because there is anything wrong with it. It is actually a great little gun with a much better trigger than most micro 9s. Very accurate and reliable. It's just that the micro 9s are not for me. I never liked the P365 for the same reason. I battle with tennis elbow and the added snappiness of the micros aggravates it greatly. I bought mine for summer carry but will be using the Bodyguard 2.0 instead. I've got nothing bad to say about the Reflex though especially given the choice of 11+1 or 15+1.

Yes, why not get the 365 in 9mm?

I find the grip small. OK for the .380, great in fact. But having shot PF-9, p938, G43… I know I’m not going to like it.

The XL is better, but I don’t like the trigger.

And I don’t care for the factory sights on either.

The Reflex fits my hand better, I like the aggressive texture better, I like the trigger better, and I like the sights better.

The only question is manual safety like my P938 or no safety like my P365? My inkling is to go with the manual safety. If I were to screw up, I’d rather draw and swipe the non-existent safety on my .380 than draw and fail to swipe the safety on one of my 9s.

Would be better to swipe a non existent safety than to need your sidearm and forget to unsafe it.

I’ve seen someone, or a couple of someones keep preaching common manual of arms amongst their weapons. There’s a lot to be said for that. None of my carry guns have a manual safety, and only my Glock has a trigger safety. And that may change, I haven’t decided if I’m going to keep the factory trigger or not.

I forget who makes them but there are quality 15 round mags for the G48. Pretty much all one needs. ETA Shield Arms?

Yes. The G48 has been on my radar since it came out. Were I a real Glock fan, I’d probably just get a 43 & a 48, add a 44 for .22 practice, ditch my other 9s & .380s and call it a day.

Very practical & efficient.

Don’t tell my wife.

But I just “like”, not “love” Glocks. And I’ve never been very practical or efficient.

And when guns are a hobby, “practical” & “efficient” are four letter words.

FWIW My Reflex took a lot of breaking in, FN recommends a 300 round break in using 124 grain ammo. HOWEVER:
Now that its fully broken in, its great! Its hammer fired rather than striker fired and very easy to rack, the trigger is exceptional and the accuracy is amazing for a pistol this small. The MRD version is compatible with so many optics, its easy fo find one thats light and cowwitnesses. I'm very pleased I went with this instead of the P365.

The P365 is over hyped. Nothing wrong with the Reflex. The FN Reflex, Springfield Hellcat, M&P Shield, or the P365. Get whatever one YOU like the best. Too many act like the P365 is the end all be all, but it's not. It's not much better than the other options. Plus, I've heard A LOT of hit or miss complaints about the slide or magazine rusting. Not saying it's a bad option, but I just think it's silly to tell everyone who ask specifically about a particular micro 9mm to go buy a P365. It's like the new canned response version of "buy a Glock 19." @BigBluefish

I finally got ahold of a Canik Mete MC9. Nice trigger, nice sights… but I prefer both on the Reflex.

So, it’s going to be the Reflex.

But, the Reflex is now on hold at least for the next 3 or 4 months because I just bought a Sig P210 Carry and blew my new gun fund.

As of now, I have had the 365 (twice), the Hellcat XL, the 43X (twice), and now the Reflex(2 of them, 1 standard and one MOS ready). I actually loved every one of these, but have decided to keep the 2 FN Reflex pistols. I love the color, and the texture when holding and carrying AIWB, ergonomics, and they shoot as good as all the others. I only want one platform, though to me at my level, they are relatively the same. Also I can easily conceal carry with the 15 round mags, though the 11 round mags are fine too.
