Back when I was very young there was a lot of talk about the benefits of flat nose full metal jacketed bullets. I think even the Colonel promoted that in a 230grn .45.
That was so long ago and at my age the memories are a bit foggy, so what can you tell me about that bullet and how did that end as an option. Without knowing I can guess that maybe it was the development of better hollow points?

The 230 grain round nose full metal jacket "hardball" round was already over-penetrative for street use, and word was, the slight flat point on the version Jeff was talking about -- by Hornady, IIRC -- penetrated even deeper. It did not catch on. we have to remember that back in those days, (1) jacketed hollow points in those calibers were in their infancy, and (2) didn't always feed and (3) didn't always expand. What we have today works WAY better, that being, in the caliber you mentioned, 230 grain JHP such as Federal HST.
Best,
Mas
