Very nice shotguns. Try running it a while to see how it goes before spending a bunch on aftermarket things. You may find you like it as it is. Pretty solid guns out of the box.

 

I have no idea what is permitted under CT state laws, but I can tell you some of the things I did with my M4.

I swapped the stock for a Mesa Tactical Urbino. Still a fixed stock, but shorter length of pull, a cheek riser, and a Limb Saver butt pad. I also added an oversized safety and a "Speedbar" bolt release from Dave's Metal Works (Benelli M4 Parts - Daves Metal Works), and a larger charging handle (I think from GGG). And I swapped the follower, which is a 922r compliance part.

You will have to make sure these changes comply with your local laws as well as 922r.

My other consideration was an m&p 12 shotgun. It would be great for home defense and packing in the gator and such. There’s something about the m4 that just makes me want it lol

 

You can also get the M4 in Comfortech, you don't have to have a pistol grip. And keep in mind that some M4 models come with chokes and some have a fixed choke. Swapping chokes give you more shotgun for the money.

 

The 11703 ihas a straight stock. Add a bigger carrier release, maybe a bigger charging handle and you're good.

 

Before spending the money on an M4, I recommend watching the TVBtv video in the 1301, it swayed me from getting one...

If he is leaving it stock capacity, 922R is a non-issue.

I'd not suggest an M4 for a first shotgun. Maybe a Remington V3, which has the same operating system, for like 40% of the price, for a trial run to see if you like it. The R83462 is the 22" version.

I also added a full size mag tube, which I didn't mention. (I believe a full length tube counts as a compliance part. A mag tube extension, which is easier to install, does not.)

The M4 was the first shotgun that I had ever shot, I think it does fine if you like the ergonomics.

 

Years ago I went with GG&G oversized bolt release, charging handle, and shell follower.

I was happy with those 3 accessories.

 

M4 is a great shotgun. I would add Mesa Tactical Urbino, and nothing else. There are options like 940 tactical, V3, 1301, and such, but M4 is king. If you decide to spend less maybe A300 ultima patrol.
