I have been looking for a Star Megastar 10mm for a year and finally got one last week. These things are true tanks, weighing 3 pounds empty. I took it to the range today and I have to say the extra weight really helps tame the 10mm recoil. The function was 100% and I was able to shoot fairly well with it. In SA the trigger has a lot of pre-travel but it has a nice break. This one has the Starvel (Electroless Nickel) finish and came with the original box with paperwork and tools. I was going to take some pics but the battery in my camera is dead and my cell phone doesn't take very good pics. I hope to get some tomorrow. Of course my pics will not be anywhere near as good as BAC's pics! Maybe I should just send it to him for pictures! It would probably love to pose on his carpet!. Brian, do you know anything about production numbers for these? They seem to be fairly rare. I know you have one in .45. The date code is M2 (1993). I haven't been able to find much info on them. It appears production started in 1992. I have never heard of factory 10 round mags for these so I have to wonder if importation stopped with (or before) the 1994 Assault weapon Ban. Anyone have more info on the Megastars?

Congrats, Greg! They are big, heavy pistols weighing 48oz unloaded. The safety has three positions. Just push it all the way down to decock the gun. The SA trigger is relatively good, but the DA pull is heavy and gritty. The slide rides inside frame, which is interesting. They are tough as nails.

Not sure about production numbers, but I'd think 10,000 to 20,000. Not common, but not as rare as some others.

Overall, it's a very solid, heavy duty handgun.

Here's mine...

Thanks Brian. I would not have thought that production was that high. As I said, I have had a hard time finding one in 10mm. The .45's seem much more common. The serial # on mine is only about 300 above yours. I was shooting a fairly warm (but not hot) hand load and the Megastar handled it very well.

Its hard to say. Production may have been under 10,000, but you have to remember that they were sold all over, not just the USA. They're hard to find here because there weren't a as many imported. Besides that, 10,000 pistols is still pretty rare. Yes, most were 45ACP.

For instance, the Benelli B76 was about 10,000 produced. They pop up less frequently than the Megastar does.

Of course, the Starvel 10mm is the rarest of them all.

Congrats and hope to see some pics.

But for the bad timing of the Clinton-era AWB which banned importation of "hi-cap" pistol mags, we'd have seen more of the MegaStars coming here, in both 10mm and .45acp.

Very nice snag, Greg. How many mags did you get with it?

Star's death was felt by me and value shooters... Almost all tanks, the Spanish Rugers...

Their last gun a polymer early in that game is one of my favorites-- single stack 9, rails like a Sig, the Ultrastar... If you see one cheap don't hesitate.
