Eotech problems... Anyone had this happen?

No real back story other than I got this older Eotech from a buddy for basically nothing.

The problem is when I look through the sight at an angle that puts the retical towards the bottom of the glass it's like there's a transparent border that when the retical passes it, it becomes extremely blurry. When the retical is towards the upper middle and top of the glass it's perfectly fine.

Anyone else experience this? Any clues or maybe some advice?

Here's a couple pics of the difference in retical location on the same sight.

#1, It's an Eotech, they generally do have problems.

#2, sounds like something in the holographic emitter may be jacked up, it should be clear anywhere you look.

Contact Eotech/L3 about it. They may replace it or tell you to take a flying &)*! at a rolling donut (would not be surprised). Without knowing the model number I couldn't say much more.

This is sound advice. After owning two EOtech's and having similar problems (which they did fix promptly at no cost to me) I use nothing but Aimpoint now. I still have my EOtech sights but I use them on my, "Fun guns" and nothing that I would ever consider using for defense.

I'm not wanting to sound like I'm bashing EOtech. I just can't and won't trust them after having several problems.

The general consensus is yes. Aimpoint and Trijicon are both the top of line.
Unfortunately being an EOTech owner & Aimpoint owner I would have to agree that Aimpoint is the better optic. My EOTech has not had any issues minus the fact it eats batteries even when in the off position. Basically it sits on the gun and then when I go to turn it on in 3 months I see the little reticle blinks 3x indicating that the battery needs to be changed even though it hadn't been used since the last time I put batteries in.

My Aimpoint - no issues which is why it is on my rifle I take to the range all the time and the EOTech sits on the AR that I don't use very often.

I want to see better pic's, but are you sure it's even real?

I know people like to bash Eotech, but having the xp2-0 in my trunk for the past 2 yrs without a problem... I have nothing bad to say

The sideways mounted cr123 battery eliminated a majority of the "issues" the eotech had. However the battery life really doesn't compare to Aimpoint, I just like the reticle better.

Probably good advice. I'll try to call them, it's worth a shot.

Probably a stupid question, but have you cleaned both the front a rear lenses? I know that my Eotech can get oil from cleaning it on a lens occasionally, and it takes some real effort to get that stuff off. In fact, if a 1/2 butt job is done in cleaning the glass, the edges will remain smeared with oily/greasy stuff, while the center gets cleaned.

While you may have a real issue with it, you might try Windex on a clean, soft towel and make sure the entire glass areas are clean.

I tried wiping it down. I'll try it again with windex and a lens cloth. Thanks for the advice!

Looking at those pictures of yours, it looks like something is smeared across the bottom of the glass. Could be the front, rear, or both glass lenses.

Also remember that with a holo-sight, the reticle tends to pixilate, or get blurry, if you focus on it instead of the target. They also pixilate in low-light levels or if the reticle brightness is too high.

I'd suggest going outside in broad day-light and looking at an object as if it was your target, and bringing the EOtech up as if you are aiming at it, keeping your eyes focused on the target object and not the reticle.

I have an "F" revision 552 on my AR, and have never had the lightest bit of issue with it. I've left the same batteries in for well over a year, and never once has it given me the 3 blink low-battery sign. And damn but are they accurate once they're dialed in....just butter. That 1 MOA dot really makes distance shooting easy.

Just cleaned the hell out of it, still the same.

I have another Eotech that has been mounted on my AR since I bought it brand new about a year ago. I have no problems with it.

This one works perfectly if the retical is towards the top of the glass. :dunno:

ETA: I removed the protective cover before the pic to clean the lens.

Sorry it didn't work for ya.

By the way, how old/what model is that? I have never seen Eotech controls like that.

What model is that? Mine does not have those style buttons. :dunno:

The problem I had with mine was like something was smeared on the glass, but it was on the inside of the glass. The ring and dot would get blurry when looking through that spot.

Weird part it, it wasn't there when I first got it.

I'd guess condensation from being improperly sealed, but that's just a WAG.

That's exactly what it seems like on this one.

No clue what model. I don't know their models very well. Mfg year is 2001.

If it's a knock off it's the best I've ever seen.
Those buttons really throw me off. I'd call Eotech and ask what their buttons looked like in 2001. Maybe someone here can tell us. No model # anywhere? I'd take my 552 off and look for a model number, but I'm not interested in re-zeroing.

Of course, it is 11 years old.

I pulled my EOTech and held it and your reticle looks a little small too. It might just be a different model but my 512 model's circle-dot reticle is much larger even while looking at it from a distance.
