I've never given this concept much thought before, i.e. pistol caliber carbines, 'pistols' with wrist braces. I did look at the Ruger PCC when it came out, but then looked at 9mm ballistics from the longer barrel which weren't that impressive really and then thought, "why get a rifle-sized firearm just to shoot a pistol caliber?" 357mag in a lever gun I get, but that's a different creature.

But I got sucked in today, because I stumbled upon the CMMG Banshee. It strikes me as a helluva good HD weapon if set up with a suppressor, especially if you're already suffering some hearing loss like me, and are worried about shooting a rifle indoors. I've already got a G41 and a bunch of mags, so I'm thinking what a nice pair they'd make (I'd need that still non-existent Gen4 30S to complete the trifecta though).

But, it's still just 45acp from a 5" barrel.

The Banshee costs a lot. I've got plenty of time to think on this. What do you think on this?

I acquired a 9mm Glock Mag Atheris Rifle Co AR Pistol to suppress it.

It worked well for me.

Why did I want it?

I have been experimenting with a CAA Gear Micro Roni Stabilizer for some time, using a Glock 19 Gen 3. I worked diligently on making it work with a Suppressor, which it did.

Then I saw a IMI Kidon Pistol Conversion which I wanted to work on, and try to suppress it. It took a lot less work and tweaking.

Both work well as Subguns or PDWs. So I ordered one. I spent a while contemplating. I chose a Glock compatible AR Pistol because I have a lot of Glocks.

I chose to use it as a Suppressor Host.

It would be OK with an aftermarket 25 round mag.
A 13 round Glock mag ? Meh.

I like the straight stick Colt mags and I ended up with a Quarter Circle 10 Colt pattern AR9.
It does getting boring though. When you light that thing up at the range with the red dot and 32 round mag, all the targets go down in a few seconds.

"Just" a .45 ACP from a 5" barrel.

It'll git the job done.
Wasn't really my point. I wub my G41 and 45acp.

How about these piles of smoldering crap? I guess I'm a stick in the mud.

Pretty cool. Someone's using their noodle. But doesn't look amenable to a suppressor. (Not necessarily a DQ, but the prospect of a suppressed 45acp (i.e. subsonic) HD 'pistol with advantages' is what made me start thinking 'yyyyyyyeaaaahhh1!"

The way I look at it is that if you want something with a stock that feeds the same mags as your pistol that can be folded or collapsed and put into a backpack this is it. Supression is another reason. A lot easier to supress a pistol round. Basically a weapon you can have in a small bag that can hit targets at 100 yards fairly easily.

They're just fun to shoot, and for those of us who mostly only get to go to indoor ranges, it gives us a more appropriate rifle to use.

Yeah you can't even do anything close to a rifle cartridge indoors.
Oh you can, but it’s too short of distance and doesn’t feel right

A G30SF with a Thompson Machine Poseidon 45ACP Suppressor which is just 4.5 inches long and weighs only 4 ounces is going to handle like a pistol rather than a more cumbersome pistol caliber carbine and can be fired much more accurately with one hand if need be an is more maneuverable in close quarters.

G 21 magazines with an X grip can also be used. And 45 ACP even in Plus+P, like a 230 grain federal plus+P HST, is subsonic.

Philosophy of use? They make shots beyond 7-10 yards stupid easy for novices, much easier than with a handgun for people who don’t shoot a lot. I don’t know that I would stretch them out past 50 yards, but the one time I took mine out to 50, I went 8 for 8 on my 8” plate.

I also appreciate the lower ammo cost, lower noise level (would suppress well if that’s your thing), and mag compatibility with pistols in many cases. They’re pretty fun to shoot, and has been mentioned, can be used on pistol ranges with backstops not rated for rifle cartridges. I understand they’re not everyone’s bag but I like the idea.

PCCs are IMO the best option for HD.

But AR-pattern PCCs are a terrible idea. Too much wasted real-estate. Good PCCs should feed through the pistol grip and allow for a 16” barrel.

The improved ballistics and a form factor that will make anyone in your family a pro-shooter at HD distances make for a formidable home defense tool.

A true rifle or shotgun has too much muzzleblast.

For what its worth....

Would you give consideration to an EXTAR I know little or nothing about them except what I have seen in reviews, but they have got my attention as a future purchase.

I like myextar EP9 more than my AR9. Works great

Yeah, I kind of like the rice-a-roni set-up. And you might be able to modify it to accommodate a suppressor since there can't be anything in front of the barrel and the gun is held in place by the accessory rail and not the slide. And Alpha Wolf makes a threaded barrel for the G21. and I'd like one with the with the Thompson Machine Poseidon 45ACP Suppressor which is only 4.5 inches long an weights only 4 ounces.

It would make for a very compact home defense gun compared to most AR based PCC's

Somebody give this man a cigar! Finally an honest answer. Besides this is America and you don't have to have reason. You just have to have the disposable income and the desire to have it.

That too lol. I really need to finish mine, although mine takes Colt pattern stick mags.
