Alexander Pope wrote “Blessed is he who expects nothing, for he shall never be disappointed”. Obviously, he wasn’t a gun owner so off he goes.

So, which guns you have owned or shot left you underwhelmed, disappointed, pissed, left you wondering why? Why?

Let the trail of tears commence.

I traded for a Masterpiece Arms Defender carbine in 5.7. It would not cycle the less expensive American Eagle ammo and I wasn't about to spend over $30 bucks per 50 of the FN stuff. Also, the stock was only held on by one screw and nut and it had been cross-threaded and would not stay tightened down. It was also very heavy with sharp edges that nicked me a few times. I sold it for what the trade value was with full disclosure. Did not miss it a bit.

Beretta Nano.

Ergos were decent and it was surprisingly accurate. Trigger was better than my XDS (which isn’t difficult) and I thought it looked cool, overall. Unfortunately, The mag would pinch the crap out of my hand on every reload, and oh, it failed to extract 1 out of every 10 rounds. I sent it back to Beretta where they replaced the extractor and barrel; they said they couldn’t reproduce the failure. Got it back and it only failed to extract about every 30 rounds, so a marked improvement (sad trombone). Ran it some more to get the new parts to break in together, and failures became less frequent, but still never completely went away. Gone.

When the APX Carry (a.k.a. Nano 2.0) was released, I couldn’t help but check it out. Better ergos and trigger break than the Nano, but the overall trigger pull was just too long for such a little pistol. I felt like I had to completely curl my finger back into my fist to get it to break, much like a S&W Bodyguard or Ruger LCP. Guess that form factor just isn’t for me!

It's probably been close to 15 years or so ago, but I bought a Firestorm 1911 pistol. Parkerized black finish, typical government model type sights, one magazine, rubber grips...heavy, heavy, heavy...a brick. I think I paid way less than $250 for it...very disappointing. It was hard to take down, none of the parts fit each other well. The rubber grips were screwed right into the grip handle, no bushings.
I had never been a 1911 type person, I had shot some, but I thought this might be a good entry gun...well it wasn't. I took a big hit and traded it for a Springfield 1911, which wasn't all that impressive either, but it looked better and ran better.

There isn't too much on the internet about those old Firestorms, I think they were imported by Bersa...maybe made by Llama....junk.

Kimber CDP.
-magazines ate up the frame
-poor lameo 3 dot sights. The rear lamps washed out with the front one, slow to aim
-barrel is uncoated Dodge steel. Rusted quickly
-swartz nonsense failed, must be removed from a carry pistol
-not worth the premium price. Kimbers are worth half of what they sell at.
+ironically, the external extractor was flawless.

S&w Jframe Chiefs special
-painful to shoot
-cylinder release is razor sharp and eats thumbs
-nearly impossible to shoot at longer ranges, it's a gut gun.

Keltec p32
-Keltec p32

Ruger P Series
-confirmed that da/sa pistols are not for me
-poor quality sights. 3 dot nonsense again.

My Kimber Ultra Carry's frame was getting tore up from the mag followers too.

Unlike yours though, my three-dot sights all worked just fine. You could even say, "zero defects". :p

Years ago I bought a used Rossi 357 rifle.
Ended up being a jam-O-matic.
Wouldn't chamber a single round.

Traded it and took a bath on the $$$

I also had a brand new AMT 22 auto-mag blow up in my hand. Guess that counts as disappointing.

Springfeld copy of hk91.
Cast receiver wouldn't feed and couldn't hit the broad side of a barn.
Lost my a$$ on that one

Sig P320.
Felt huge compared to my G23.

EAA Witness 10mm.
Couldn't get it to run reliably. Bought new ($$$$) mags, no joy. I really really wanted to like it because, before I shot it, I loved it.
I agree with the P320. Ive had 2 since they came out I sold one and the 2nd had the issue where it could discharge if dropped. I sent it in to fix it and they couldn’t or were out of parts or something and they agreed to give me credit and I put that towards my P226 Mk 25.

But imho the most overrated gun I’ve ever had was a Springfield XDs 3.3 .45. Hated shooting it. Didn’t like the texture. 6 rounds. Then they decided to make it uglier by doing that MOD 2 version.

I also think that Weatherby Mark V is overrated, esp in some of their own proprietary calibers. I’m not saying they are bad guns at all because I have a mk V in .300 wby. It’s a great gun but still overrated and for $2500-3000 I think there are much better options that can be had at semi custom or custom quality

I had one of the AMT Backups in 22lr when they first came out. Other than a problem with the mag, which was easily fiixed, it always seemed to work OK.

Over the decades now, the one company Ive had the most complaints about, has been Springfield. They were OK in the 80's, when they first started out, but went downhill pretty quick. Their early 1911's and M1A's were great guns, their late 90's guns, not so much.

I swore Id never buy another around the turn of the century and kept that up until last year, when I broke down and bought one of their mil-spec Defender series 1911's. Other than needing a tool of some sort to get it apart and back together, it was OK at first, but as time went on, it started choking on everything, pretty much every outing. I just traded it off last week and good riddance. Im back to "swearing". :)

Oh boy, I've had many disappointing experiences with usually well regarded firearms. Most were QC issues but some I just didn't like.

Colt 1911s - poor slide stop and safety fit, poor fit and finish generally. Bad mags.

S&W 586, 19, 66, 442 and pre-model 10 - excessive wear and or shoddy QC

Ruger GP100 and SP101- poorly fit and finished, mechanical failures

Arsenal Sam7 - bad mags, rifle was fine

Beretta 92fs - perfect but I didn't like the size or weight or safety.

Marlin 60 - poor QC, wouldn't extract

Colt, Ruger, PSA AR15 - not well put together, poor fit and/or bad small parts

Savage 110 - cheaply made, bent internal mag feed lips.

Taurus 85 ul - poor fit, cheaply made

M1A scout - wildly out of spec receiver. Got a different one now.

Ruger 10/22 - obviously cheaply made newer production, but works fine.

I had a little Davis .380 that worked well, gave it to a friend for his B-day.
Got an AMT .45 pocket pistol(small one like the .380) Hurt to shoot, and jammed about every 2nd round. tried to fix it never could get it past the 2nd round. sold it to a gun smith. AMT hard baller...Jam o matic, AMT .22 auto mag.. jam o matic, sold it also. Every Taurus revolver I ever bought had a problem and had to go back to the factory. I stopped buying them, then they came out with that TX .22 and it works like a charm.(but that's the only Taurus I will ever buy)
Glocks always work!

Magnum Research Lite Rifle , 10/22 clone. It wouldn't run a full mag without bolt closing on a spent case. 10 or so different mags and as many kinds of ammo. Sent it back twice at my expense and they never fixed it. Sold it at a huge loss, at the time high end 10/22s weren't common or well known.
