CZ Announces it will no longer offer the CZ97b

CZ USA said they would no longer offer the CZ97b for sale recently. The big ,45 maybe the last all metal DA/SA CZ will ever make. I think it's a shame, but the trend is toward polymer guns in all calibers. The admittedly heavy 97b is accurate and super reliable right out of the box.. I was very impressed the way the big .45 soaks up recoil making follow up shots easy.. 10+! .45's are a lot of fire power. The 97b is my Winter carry and is my LEOSA qualifying pistol and with a shoulder holster or custom OWB I really don't notice the weight. I see this as a trend with all metal handguns slowly disappearing. I also bet CZ97b prices are going to jump very quick

As much as us old-timers might hate to admit it .45 does seem to be on the decline.

With the trend going to small and micro pistols the .45 just isn't the ideal cartridge for these wee little pistols. Low capacity and brutal recoil just don't attract a lot of customers to tiny .45s. 9mm is the standard and this seems to be affecting the large pistol offerings as well.

Hell there are even 9mm 1911s nowadays.

Shame, really. Old fashioned maybe but I look at my Hellcat, a fine gun, but then I look at the 97b and think "Which one would you want in a fight for your life?"

I just took a 97B home today, complete box as new, 16 rounds fired by previous owner. The price was right. I did the field strip, & lube, clean, no shooting yet. I have a new PCR too.

Part of it is this, two years from now how will either of these pistols compare to the $700 in an almost zero interest account? Look at the CZ-527, I have one in 7.62x39, should of bought 10 of them, north of $1100 on gunbroker.

I’m also appreciating the DA/SA trigger more these days, safe carry is up there with me. A few other types cross reference with holsters for the 97B, even the Glock 23 holster can work, 92, & the Sig 228 series too. I’m not talking so much the kydex but more forgiving leather, maybe with retention strap.

Your right, if SHTF, you want the 97B or even the PCR over the LCP?? With the right rig, I don’t mind going a little heavier.

I'm sure the CZ 75 pistols aren't going anywhere anytime soon....these are the legend CZ was built on.

That maybe the downfall of the CZ 97 it's never really been considered a part of the 75 family. While certainly based on a 75 it's not the exact same animal, certainly not looks wise or reputation wise or caliber wise. One of the upgrades to the last incarnation made besides thinner grip panels, was the feedramp. Apparently there were reliability issues this was meant to correct.

The 97 just never caught on for whatever reasons like it's little brother the 75 did.

With CZ already owning Dan Wesson and recently acquiring Colt I tend to doubt a 97B resurrection is gonna be a real high priority. If anything maybe some .45 version of one of their new polymer pistols but I would be surprised to see them try to bring back a pistol that was never real popular in the first place like the 97.

It's failed to catch on twice now....how many times are you gonna beat a dead horse. What's gonna change to make them suddenly become a big seller? Big clunky all-steel .45s, that aren't 1911s, aren't exactly a hot item on the market nowadays.

They are moderately popular in California due to the 10 round mag. The weight doesn't matter much since CCW permits aren't common.

I still don't see them ever taking away a big market share from 1911s.

Sure there maybe some cult following but I really don't know that many people who even realize they exist let alone want one instead of a 1911 or a Glock 21 for that matter.

If there was a strong demand they wouldn't have discontinued them and I seriously doubt there ever will be, but hey you may be right we shall see....they resurrected it once maybe somebody at CZ has a softspot in their heart for the 97 and just won't give up on it.
