Hello Folks ? I've recently been wondering about the 'when, where, how, & why' regarding Glock's somewhat uncommon 24round 9mm Factory Magazines ? Although not actually rare, they are less frequently observed than the other other assorted capacities. My question is, 'Does anyone happen to know if these Magazines were simply Glock's attempt at producing a capacity which they felt their customers would like, & therefore purchase. 'OR', was this particular 24 capacity produced for some specific Agency, & or Unit ? I base this supposition on the fact that the now commonly available 22 round Glock 22 Magazine haven't been produced initially for, or at the behest of the U.S. Army's Delta Force. Soooooo, for the sake of my unlimited curiosity, if anyone happens to have any information on this 'possible' issue, I'd love to hear about it. THANKS Guys !

I have no idea if there is any validity to this, but the explanation I read somewhere is that its designed to fit some size limit for one of the competitive orgs, some about having to fit in a box. Again could be pure BS for all I know.

Taran Tactical makes an extended base plate for standard G17 mags which will give you 23+1. I've seen them but never had any myself, so I don't know if they are worth the cost. And there are some Gen 5 G17 mags that are 24 round capacity. So they do exist.

I do know the 24 rd mag will fit in the Glock case while in the pistol. I put a +2 extension on mine and it also fits.

The GLOCK 22rd in caliber .40 S&W came out, as you said. In a rare change of order, I believe GLOCK had developed something for the .40 S&W, then, decided it would work in 9mm, too.

The only difference between the 22rd .40 S&W and the 24rd 9mm is how many holes are punched in the back, how it’s labeled, and how far the lips are apart.

THANKS Guys, I've always assumed that Glock had a distinct reason for introducing the 24 rd 9mm version. As many of us already know, Glock has never been one to made rash decisions, or introduce a product on a whim based upon consumer wishes. ( Well, except the ill conceived introduction of the very first, initial production of the Glock G22 released without the 2nd Pin which was shortly thereafter proven to be quite necessary. And yes, I had one many years ago, & truly wish I bad kept it !! ) But, on the other hand, Glock simply may have just capitalized on the relative success & customer response to their 22 rd .40 edition, as pointed out above by 'nikerret'. You do have to admit though, the 24 rd 9mm Magazines are somewhat uncommon, at least in my particular experience. That of course could be due to 2 factors, 1) That they are indeed a limited production item, or 2) Based on their relative usefulness & popularity with Glock owners, they've become less frequently encountered because people tend to stock up on them when available ? In the however it's all irrelevant. Although not always available in abundance, they do show up enough with enough frequency for us to pick up a few if we desire. As for me, I personally feel that they're one of the most useful capacities in the 9mm line-up. Like one of the '3 Little Bears' said, 'Not too big, not too small, so just right' ! ( Or something like that, it has been a few years since I read that particular story. ) I happy at this point as I just ordered 3 more at about $30 each, which brings me up of 7x of that particular capacity.
