Just wondering does anyone make conversion barrels for the new G30s? I'm guessing same barrel as the G36. I would like to get a 10mm conversion. Any thoughts welcome

My 36 slide only weighs 12.4 ounces. Your 30S slide should be the same. The G30 slide is about 3.2 ounces heavier IIRC. If you want 45 Super or 10mm you need a 30 slide as Scrappy noted.

I'm not aware of any USA manufacturer of G36 conversion barrels. IGB Austria is a possibility if you can find a supplier that imports them into the USA. They are costly and customer support will be a hassle if you have any problems. They have a G36 10mm barrel and .400 Corbon barrel listed in their product line. I don't know of anyone who has an IGB barrel that reported their opinions.

The real issue to me is not can it be done for the G30S, but rather should it be done. If you've ever stood behind the heavier, thicker G30 slide when it slams back at you from the force of a full-power 10mm round, you want to get down on your knees and thank Gaston Glock for every last extra bit of weight in that slide and thick-walled barrel. You won't find me behind a light G36 10mm barrel with thinner walls and a light G30S slide with a 10mm conversion, no way.

A stronger recoil spring will absorb some of the higher kinetic energy of the lighter slide moving at greater velocity, but the remaining momentum of the G30S slide when it hits the frame will still be substantially greater than the G30 slide. Felt recoil also grows worse the stronger the spring. Mass of slide, plus mass of barrel before it unlocks, are king in this equation. The best hope for a G30S 10mm conversion is an extended, threaded barrel with the added mass of a screw-on compensator if you're not willing to replace the upper with a complete G29 upper. You guys that want a lighter G30 for carry must deal with the consequences. There is no free lunch and the laws of physics are a cruel master.

See if you can find a G29 slide for sale for 10mm, Find a G30 slide for .460 or..........
:agree:
This is the better option to convert a G30S to 10mm; the only option I would be willing to attempt with full-power 10mm ammo.

I haven't fired my 30sf barrel yet. I'm hoping I can fins someone like you with a brand new 30s slide and barrel and I'll make a direct swap straight across. But It's got to be with a true unfired (MINT STATE) 30s barrel and slide, just like what I'm willing to hand them.

they had a 30s when I went to buy mine but I bought the G30sf to be able to convert to 10mm for woods carry. my problem now is finding a 10mm conversion barrel.

Hate to revive an old thread, but it seems to have the most relevant content

The most realistic option for someone who would like to build the equivalent of a Model 29S would be to simply mill down the sides of an OEM slide. It would take some effort to keep the factory bevel and grips, but would be worth it.

To combat increased recoil, some compensator porting and a heavier spring should do the trick.

Why not just buy a G29SF?
