I only use bore snakes for a quick clean for my rifles but not on any of my handguns.

 

Probably not a big deal but can you use a bore-snake 40 s&w to clean the 10mm barrel on the G20? Thx’s

.40 caliber is the same bore size as 10mm. They both use the same diameter bullets, 10.17 mm (0.400 in) The case diameter is also the same and only the case length is different which is why you can fire .40 S&W in a 10mm chamber because the shorter case will headspace on the rim instead of the case mouth and the Glock has a heavy duty spring loaded extractor claw for holding the case rim.

 

I always run a bore snake, with a couple of drops of CLP, through the bore when I finish shooting.
Doing that while the barrel is still warm makes cleaning up at home a breeze.... I do this with shotgun, rifles, and pistols.

 

I'm so old school... I still use Hoppe's 9, a rod, and brush.

Love the smell of Hoppe's. Don't judge.

Lately I've been running an upsized bore snake through my pistols when cleaning time comes around. Running a 45 snake through a 40 barrel and a 40 snake through a 9mm barrel makes for a very quick and through cleaning.

 

I use the Boresnake to get the dust out of the barrels and leave a thin coat of CLP as a preservative. To do a proper cleaning you need brushes and patches IMHO.

 

I always use a brass brush and patches with Hoppes number nine.
