I have a M23 and I am looking to buy a .40 - 9mm conversion barrel. I have the chance to buy a used KKM conversion barrel at a great price but it is sized for the M22. The seller says I could just have a machine shop cut off .5" or so to make it the same size as the normal M23 length. Is this a good idea?

I know I could fire it okay with the extra half inch sticking out, but I'd prefer to keep it shorter. Has anyone chopped a barrel to get it to fit flush with a smaller size model? Any suggestions? If it ends up being too costly or a hassle to get it cut off, it might just be better to pass on this deal and wait until I find the appropriate conversion barrel.

Thanks for suggestions / feedback.

I would bet that between the cost of the barrel and the machining you would be two thirds of the way to the cost of a G19.

That would have to be a REALLY good deal to make me go through all that.

After you chop the barrel you'd need to have it crowned by someone that knows what they're doing.

I got a slightly used KKM barrel a few months ago for $125... How cheap is this one being offered for?

I can get the barrel with two 15 round 9mm mags for $140. So the barrel is priced at $100. I ave not priced the chop / mod costs yet.

No way that is worth it. As the other post said. I am not even sure the G22 barrel will fit the G23. I have heard they won't.

I'd pass

Sounds like your seller is selling you a load of S along with it just to make a sale. Even if the lugs worked, who would go to that kind of trouble and expense? Just buy an OEM barrel for $125 and be done with it.

No.

22, 35 & 24 barrel lugs are compatible...& 27 & 23 barrel lugs are compatible, but the two types cannot be mixed.

So - chopping the barrel is a moot point in your case.
Thank You!!!! That makes this a moot point indeed.

I don't know if the seller was just ignorant (like me) or otherwise, but I know to pass on this deal now.

the locking lugs from a Glock 22 barrel will not work with the 23, Glocks compact and sub compact use same logs, the full size Glocks use a different lug.

edit to add: that Naponer types a lot faster than me

KKM will shorten their barrel for FREE - just mail it to them, the even pay for shipping back.. I did this to my 23 to be used in my 27

If that happened, the resulting white elephant would then fit nothing! It could never ever fit a 23 or 27 frame due to lug incompatibility...and having been shortened by a half-inch, it could no longer fit even a 22 frame. :)

I suspect KKM would have pointed that out.
