I have been looking for information pertaining to an exception for weapons safety training to get my CC permit through Missouri. I saw that Virginia has non-resident permits and they allow military personnel to waive the training. Anyone have experience with this? I will take the training if I have to but I really don't see the point in paying $75-$100 for a class that I taught to MP trainees for over two years.

I don't think there is any way around it if you want a MO permit. You must demonstarte your ability to safely fire a revolver and semi-auto and then qualify with each type of gun. I believe recent changes to the law now require 90 rds to fire both practice and record fire. The Outdoor Recreation Center schedules the class on post about every 2 months or so for about $80. The same team that teaches the course on post also teaches it off post in St. James, MO if you're in a hurry. Outdoor rec can provide you their contact information.

You can find the law here:

The class is MUCH more valuable for the legalities that you cover rather than any actual weapons training.

The class I went to was about 30 mins total of weapons training and probably around 5 hours of legals.

YMMV

Thank you all for the info. I was planning to use the Outdoor Rec Center's course. I guess the legality issues would be good to have more clarification since reading about everything online makes some issues clear as mud.

QFT. My class was the same way. 30-ish minutes of weapons training and 5 hours of legal training. Plus some spatial awareness training as well. We even had Kevin Jamison come in to teach the legal stuff. It was an incredibly helpful class and well worth the money even if you already know how to shoot (which I did).

I signed up for the CCW class through the Outdoor Adventure center on post. $80 will be worth it if I end up with a clear understanding of the law.
The instructors have taught a lot of classes and they're very good. Send me a PM and I'll send you my phone number on post and give you the lowdown on local ranges and stuff. I'll be at work tomorrow and then out on leave for the holidays.

Sad but true.
In todays society just knowing how to shoot isn't enough to keep you out of trouble. I doubt even many lawyers know enough about the lawful use of firearms to stay completely out of trouble.

I keep printed, updated copies of the CCW/use of lethal/deadly force laws for every state I carry in. I review the out of state laws for the applicable states every time, prior to traveling. I also review my states laws at least once or twice a year. And I probably still miss something since I'm not a lawyer.
