Anyone sold long guns to Cabelas? My local store has signage indicating they buy guns.

Agree 100%. I will never do it again. Wanted to upgrade to a new 9mm with a manual safety. Was trading in identical without manual safety. Here is how that went. Original cost was $ 600. They said the trad-in value was $ 425. Then i got 60% of the $ 425, which was $ 255, as credit for the same $ 600 handgun but with manual safety. I should have just given the handgun to one of my sons. Will never do that again. It is noted that the original handgun was brand new, in original box, and was never hot fired.

On a whim one day I took a few never fired handguns to them. Included in the group was a Wilson Combat X9S, Sig Legion X5, G19, and a few others. They offered around 35 cents on the new purchase dollar.

I had a good conversation with the guy in the Gun Library. His hands were tied to the database they have and said the only people that sell are desperate for cash.

I now use a LGS that keeps consignments in his shop for two weeks and then list on Gun Broker. He takes care of everything, takes credit cards, ships and takes care of all the paperwork.

He gets 15-20%.

The problem is neither of those is a particularly desireable weapon. So anyone who takes it in trade/buys it has to either want it, or is accepting that they're going to sit on it for a while. Makes it hard to offer much when it brings in relatively little and takes time to move.

I've gotten the sh!t end of the stick selling to cabelas, tried to sell a g30 in perfect condition and got offered $250 he said they'd sell it for $350... I told him there's one in the used case in rough shape for $500 but he wouldn't budge! But in all fairness anything thats not person to person is a loosing deal! I would post your items here like the above post said as long as you have an ffl that'll ship

Any used gun brought into a retail store goes into competition with the dealer's new inventory so they want to price them competitively. My opinion is that retailers don't want to deal with used inventory unless they have to, so they low ball you on price so they can build enough margin in to cover themselves for any problems a customer may have with a non-warrantied used gun. I've had a major dealer in Southern California refuse to even handle a transfer of a collector grade S&W Model 29 with the excuse that they sold that model new and they couldn't be bothered.

When I wanted to sell two 1911's, Cabela's offered me prices that were $5 less than what guns.com offered. Since I was at Cabela's, I took the "bird in the hand" offers. More recently, I had decent offers for other guns from gun.com.

Nobody who has been involved with guns for more than a month. You may as well sell it for scrap metal.

Helpful rule for gun trading:
1. You never trade a gun to a gun dealer.
2. The only thing worse than trading a gun to a dealer is selling a gun to a dealer.
3. Selling a gun to a big chain store dealer is even worse than #2.

My LGS offered me $300 for a SP 101 in nearly new condition. Retail would be around $600.
Half of what it would sell for is a good offer if you are trying to sell to a dealer.

I look at it this way.

Cabelas doesn’t need to buy it and will offer the lowest price possible which might trigger a sale.

The problem is their inventory is Generally pretty thin. They have a lot of junk guns, historic pieces or $2,000 plus pieces which generally don’t interest me.

I have $3,400 in gift cards I cashed in from an employer rewards program. I’ve been there several times including 1 where I spent nearly 2 hours there looking.

Couldn't find a single firearm on my wish list which is pretty long.

They would be better off offering better prices because when I walk in and see used guns at $20-50 less than a new firearm why would I buy used.

My Cabela's won't touch ARs (too easy to swap factory parts for cheap parts, I suppose). For better or for worse, the prices they offer are based off some database. Extras don't seem to materially affect the offer. My Cabela's will typically offer about 2/3 of whatever they're going to list the gun for.
