Do the 10 round mag Glocks (presumably for CA and other markets) have anything different about them apart from the reduced mag capacity?

Can only buy gen 3 glocks new. Other than that everything is the same except mag capacity

Lipsey's, for example, offers Gen 5 Glock 19 and 45 models in 10 and 15 round mag packages. So both are the same other than the mags???

My understanding is, if active LEO, you CAN buy a different generation as long as you have a letter from your agency. One can buy another generation private party as well…

I had SLR Rifleworks design and machine a black-anodized 7075 aluminum magwell specifically for the PSA Dagger™. SLR Rifleworks told me the magwell needed a special cutout to accept an OEM Glock 10-round magazine as compared to an OEM Glock 15-round magazine. I don't own an OEM Glock 10-round magazine and wasn't aware there was a difference. I can't say specifically what the difference is, but I just thought I'd share. You can E-mail SLR Rifleworks if you need more information.

I have lots of the 10 round Glock mags. they are the only mags legal for sale in ban states like mine. Glock makes lots of them for all calibers. They are the same dimensions, just hold 5 less in the G19....7 less in the G17........etc.

The CA ten round magazines have a metal liner that insures they cannot be modified to a higher capacity. They are actually quite durable as a result.
They're pretty much a whole different animal.

Are they reliable? I read a lot of horror stories about them. I haven't tried them yet. Some people are saying the Magpul 10 rounders are more reliable than Glock at half the price. I am hoping these are old reports and the problem has been fixed with newer models.

The 10 rd Glock magazines, at least the ones for the 19, are slightly shorter than the regular capacity mags. I have 3 and they are just as reliable and work just as well as the larger capacity mags. When locked in place there is barely any gap between the floorplate and frame, unlike the regular capacity mags. The metal liner is ribbed on the inside so there is no way to convert it to a larger capacity magazine. The follower is also a completely different design in the 10 compared to the regular capacity mags.

The 10 round mags are not shorter, but rather they have a V shaped ridge on each side of the metal liner. Yes, mag extensions do work on 10 rounders, but it's illegal in CA to do so. You have to have the right generation mag extension.

Remember during slick willie’s AWB only 10 rounders were available? I still have a few of those somewhere. As mentioned, they cannot be modified to full capacity magazines. During the ban it was legal to own full capacity mags, they just couldn’t be sold new to other than military/LEO. I remember paying $90 each for some used 17 round magazines and considering it a good deal.
