Bushmaster carbon 15 pistol

I just picked one up the other days because I got a smoking deal on it that I couldn't pass up. I haven't done a ton of research on them and I am more of a pistol guy than an AR guy. Does anybody know much about this gun or what accessories are available? It is close to the typical AR platform but has a different rail so nothing attaches the same. Ideas? Recommendations?

sorry friend, did a lil research and only found bushmaster accesories for the carbon line, and most of them have to be drilled and tapped to the receiver. since you got such a good deal maybe you can just buld a custom pistol upper with a flat top and railed forend. just a side note i would pay extra close attention to the area of the upper where the charging handle latches. its a very high wear area(aluminum on composite) and i have heard the charging handle wont stay latched.

Get rid of it.

#1, it's a Bushmaster.

#2, it's a Carbon 15.

They have issues.

MrMurphy nailed it. Sell it and get something better. In my opinion ARs are much more useful in the rifle form, get a S&W Sport if your on a budget.
Why should he sell it? He clearly stated he's a pistol guy and not a AR guy. Be helpful to the man instead of telling him what YOU prefer over what HE prefers!

Getting past all the knee jerk reactions. Bushmaster will retrofit the type 97s top rail with integral sights, handguard, and bottom rail. From what I understand, they'll only charge for the parts installed and do the smithing gratis. The lower will take parts like any other AR, and will swap to other uppers with a buffer tube swap, which will screw right in.

I don't have a Carbon 15 rifle or pistol, but I've handled them and been impressed by the feather light weight of the type 21 rifle. The Carbon 15 pistol would make a nice lightweight SBR. Just don't try to chop down trees with it or do multiple full auto mag dumps that might melt the upper. Get out and shoot and see what you think!

Why? Do you actually care what other people think about you or your toys?
For the same reason you won't see me driving a rice burner with a spoiler.

I have no use for toys. Firearms are tools. Tools can be fun, but only if they are practical and well made IMO.

You obvioulsy care about what people think, that is why your avatar is you showing off your muscles.

When your dad is an old fart with shoulder problem, every pound makes a difference.

Without the Bushhamster Carbon 15, my dad may not be able to enjoy the Mattel Toy.

I doubt that he's going to do any room clearing and ninja rolls any time soon. I think that the Bushhamster will be safe from becoming broken in my household.

It goes bang and it delivers hot lead to target AND it's light. Can't ask for more.

I wish more people had this attitude. I can't help but silently ridicule the guys that show up at the range decked out in full Multicam loadout just to shoot thier 14lb tactical wet dream carbines off the bench.

I have to call B.S.

I'm sure your dad can do great ninja rolls!

Yep, I love me an ar, (SBRing my m4gery right now to 11.5 with FSB), but count me out when it comes to multicam and vests. I'm not hunting so i don't need camo, and I have pockets for mags. Now if you have a job where you need to wear a harness/rig, then go for it. otherwise, mall ninja.

If memory serves, Professional Ordnance introduced the 'Carbon' line years ago, and it was plagued with problems. Bushmaster bought it and began to produce them, only marginally improving the quality. It was an idea that never really caught on.

If you got a 'smoking' deal (I'd be interested in hearing how much you paid), and you're happy with it, then have fun with it. Personally, I wouldn't expect a whole lot out of it.

Again, there is absolutely no reason a carbon fiber or polymer lower couldn't be made strong enough and reliable enough to be a viable option. I'm just not sure it's been done quite yet. Until I am sure, I'll stay with the traditional alloy. I'm certainly open to new materials, improvement of old materials, lighter weight, etc., etc. I wish there was a super-lightweight, inexpensive carbon or polymer lower that I was comfortable with. But I'm not convinced there is...yet.
