Looking for a new fixed blade knife, mainly for field dressing whitetail deer. This looks to be about the perfect size and blade shape for this. Anything good or bad that I should consider about this knife before purchase? I am a lefty and would prefer a left handed sheath, but I can get an aftermarket one, plus it will mostly live in my small pack and not on my belt, so not that big of a deal.

The very first knife that I bought for skinning a deer back in the 70’s was a Buck 105 . After all these years , it is still my favorite . I dont know if I would want that hard steel of the pro and double the price . Mine holds an edge good and is easier to sharpen . But if that is what you want , I think that you will like the size .

I think bought one of these back in the '80s, or one very close to it. I always found it a little small and not a great blade shape for deer.

I'd rather have a Buck Special or, even better, one of the kits with multiple blades. These days I usually use a Gerber set like this:

I use it from field dressing until the meat is bagged and on ice.
