Bought a brand new Glock 19 Gen5 MOS and it came with a Minus connector out of the Box. And extractor gets caught by the slide back plate!

Hi,

I bought a brand new Glock 19 MOS Gen 5, factory date 11.2020 and I also grabbed a OEM minus connector and when I wanted to install it, I was surprised, that it came out of the Box with a Minus connector in it.

Is this normal?

Also I noticed, that out of the box the slide finish is a tad bit lighter, more grey than deep black, compared to my 1 year old Glock 17 Gen 5. I then realised, that the original lighter grey finish quickly turns black, once gun oil spreads over the untouched slide and soon my Glock 19 looked exactly the same dark black shade as my Glock 17.

I like the dark Black finish better, but just out of curiosity, I wonder how one can safely remove/clean the oil from the outer slide to get back the lighter out of the box grey finish? Just wiping it with a cloth just spreads the oil more.

Also another issue I noticed is that when reassembling the slide, it gets stuck because the extractor nose slightly gets caught by the slides back plate, at the little hole in the back plate that is supposed to allow the extractor pass through the back plate. I then have to push the slide and grip a bit towards opposite directions and bend it a bit to remove that friction in order to reassemble the slide completely. After that however the slide works flawlessly.

I didn't have that issue with the glock 17.

I understand that the extractor nose is bend a bit more on the Glock 19 than on the glock 17. Am I correct to assume that it is supposed to be that way?

EDIT:

Here is a picture of the different Connectors:
From left to right: OEM Minus connetcor I purchased seperately. Dot Connectoer from my Glock 17 Gen5 MOS. Right: Minus connector that was unexpectedly in my brand new Glock 19 MOS.

Here is the picture of the new proofing date design. Its an original Austrian made Glock of course.

Nothing special. The Label just says GLOCK19GEN5MOS 9MM. And the serial number. And the gun looks brand new and unused.

I doubt that the dealer changed the Connector, as I additionally ordered the OEM minus connector from him and picked up both at the same time. So why would he sell me a minus connector and additionally change the Original one to Minus? Also my dealer does not do such services like installing connectors for free. He just mainly sells stuff and would have charged such a service extra.

Also that gun was ordered from factory for me. I had to wait a few weeks for it to arrive and then could pick it up.

I also noticed that the Minus sign on the preinstalled connector is a tad bit longer and is not as deeply engraved as the one on the OEM minus connector. The angle on both look the same to me though.

Although I don't have much experience with minus connectors until now, I couldn't tell out of the box that the Glock 19 had a minus connector in it, as the trigger was similar, if not a bit harder than my 1 year old Glock 17 with a dot connector that has run about 200 rounds and dozens of dry fire so far. After installing the OEM minus connector I believe to have a smoother and lighter pull. Could be Placebo though. ;-).

My Glock 17 came with a dot connector and I changed it to a minus and now both my brand new glock 19 and my 1 year old Glpck 17 have similiar pull. Its not much different, but I can feel that the trigger is lighter.

Is glock sending out minus connectors by default now?

No! I wouldn't go around and make post about it. It is clearly a even longer minus than the minus on OEM Minus connector.

Another thing I noticed is that the Glock 19 had a white label on the box, while my Glock 17 came with a green sticker with a bar code. The white label on the Glock 19 has no Barcode.

The Glock label should have the trigger pull weight.

Is it FXD 5.5LB
No its a white label only. And no bar code. And no mention of the guns specifics. I also have the 19MOS FS FXD, But this is not mentioned on the stickers. Just Glock19GEN5MOS and the serial number.

I understand that the Blue Label Glocks are for Law Enforcement only.

The Glock 17 I bought last year had a green Labeled sticker with Bar Code on it.It also had no specifics on it like trigger weight and stuff. And the FXD stands for fixed sights, which is the way my glocks are too. But nothing like that is printed on any label.

The way I understand it, both of my Glocks I ordered had to be delivered from factory. First I had to wait twoo weeks for my Glock 17 MOS FS and now about 6 weeks for the Glock 19. They didn't have the specific version I wanted (MOS, FS Gen5) on store and had to order it.

I don't know who puts on the stickers on the cases? Do they come out of the factory like that or is it the dealers responsibility to put the right stickers on it?

They come with the dot connector.

Box label has more info they you originally gave, what all does it say?
We don't want your serial number.

If you want to clean up/off the oil use an absorbent cloth.

Hold up the rear of upper slightly when replacing slide.

Yeah a clean cotton cloth applied a few times absorbs the oil and the light grey finish shines through.

I have to fishtail the slide a bit. First the slide to the right to let the extractor tip pass and then to left to let the plastic of the trigger housing pass through the back plates hole. Once I figured this out, I can put the slide on and off just fine.

I can't fully compare it yet, as I just installed it now and did some dry fire and it seems quite nice. Shooting ranges are closed due to corona. Nothing wrong with the dot connector, but it was just 4 bucks a connector, and I'd be at the shop to pick up my glock anyway so I thought save shipping and lets give it a try.

The extractor is not the problem. The brand new Back Plate is.

I switched the slides and put the back plate of my old Glock 17 on the brand new Glock 19 and the slide and extractor do not make contact and installation is without issues.
I think the problem is that the Glock 19 has a new back plate and the slide and grip have not been reassembled too many times. So the tip of the extractor slightly scratches the back plate.

My Glock 17 has worn out a tiny bit of the back plates hole and thus the installation works.

I guess the tolerance on that back plate hole is too tight on brand new guns.

I have understood now what causes this and am able to fishtail the slide on without much issues.

No one is noticing the OP is not in the US, it appears he is in France. That is why the proofing on the Glock is much different than what we see here in the US, France probably has a proof law (like most European countries) that requires what we are seeing. Probably also has something to do with the minus connector also. The sticker on the box is most likely what the gunshop or Glock puts on for one reason or another.

As to how to get oil off the slide, just use gun cleaning solvent, such as Hoppes or anything similar. Will not cause any harm. The rear cover plate will contact the ejector when putting the slide on, just have to move the slide around a bit and it goes right on. It is not an issue and slight differences in backplates and the alignment of it when assembled on the slide may make one easier than another. All my Glocks are exactly the same way. Or you can act like an internet Operator and fast and recklessly push the slide on and let the ejector gouge the rear cover plate then it will go on easier. Of course a chunk of plastic will be gone too.

GlockExpert101, can you confirm that you purchased your Glock outside the United Stares?

i think 99% of us on Glock Talk are US residents. Sorry, but we probably don’t know what’s being sold outside the USA

Yeah! Thats how I'm doing it now.

I was surprised at first because I didn't have that issue with my Glock 17 and just have to make sure that the first rails fit and everything else then just falls in. I thought something was wrong, but then carefully looking at what causes the friction made me understand what to do. There is enough wiggle room to circumvent any friction with the back plate.

Its not the US white label. It came with 2 15 round mags. It is an Austrian model bought in Austria. And it should have had a standard dot connector but came with a minus out of the box, which was a nice surprise and is the only thing I'm wondering here.

You can not order them with a minus connector. You have to order the minus connector separately and install it yourself, which I did, only to be surprised, that there was already minus connector out of the box. From what I know, only the competition models Glock 34 and 17L come with a minus connector out of the box. So I could have saved the 4 bucks and the disassembly.

I did some research and the stickers are the responsibility of the importer. Glock does not sell the guns themselves to the end customer, not even in Austria. They have one main Distributor in every country who has the responsibility to affix the sticker and package the Pistols with whatever rules apply in that country. That distributor decides what kind of stickers to affix. he better do it right or will loose his license.

In the US you have those rainbow colors on Glock boxes due to different rules and the guns specific features on the stickers. In my case only the caliber, model and serial number is put on that sticker. What trigger pull it has, no one cares here. But apparently there are rules in the US about what trigger pull the gun has and can have legal consequences Legal Risks of Modifying Your Trigger Pull - U.S. & Texas LawShield, so you have to put the trigger pull weight on the boxes. It's like those warnings in the mirror of cars Objects in mirror are closer than they appear - Wikipedia or on cups that contents may be hot or not to put life animals in microwaves or otherwise the seller will face dire consequences in court. Over here in the old world we don't have these warnings in our mirrors or coffee cups and are supposed to know that coffe cups can contain hot beverages.
