I tried a Noveske Flaming Pig but the damn things are sorta heavy. And costly.

So I bought an aluminum blast can at my LGS made by Midwest Industries. So much lighter, and at a glance they are identical to the Flaming Pig.

I put it on my CZ Scorpion patrol gun, which with its 7.75" barrel I could shoot 147-gr HSTs at just barely subsonic. But the sound direction was much improved and it added almost no weight at all. I sold the Scorpion when I left patrol and retired.

So I put it on my 5.56 bolt rifle and it definitely still has a report but it is significantly less to the shooter.

Thoughts? Opinions?

Forgive my ignorance, but what’s a blast can?

I might have seen pictures of them on rifles-does it look kinda sorta like a suppressor (cylindrical)?

You know, I thought about putting one on my PC Carbine, but since I don’t really notice any blast when I’m shooting it, I figured it would be superfluous. Probably because a 16” 9mm barrel keeps blast well away from my face (or it’s not noticeable enough to be bothersome).

I'm running a Guntec blast can on my AR9 pistol, 5.5" barrel with a 7.0" handguard so the blast can is with in the handguard and sticks out about 1-1/2 to 2"

easy on and off with a screwdriver shaft that fits the slots in the end for quick change out to my suppressor.

Blast can or linear compensator.......... all will do better than a normal FH at reducing noise behind the weapon.....

Since most shooters are using hearing protection I consider the blast can to be a moot addition.

I've never minded hearing the sound or feeling the percussion from someone beside me shooting a rifle with a muzzle brake; it's for the shooter's benefit, not mine, and is just part of the shooting experience - the same way someone at an indoor range shooting their .22LR rifle may not like the individual in the next lane over shooting their 44mag revolver; you deal with it or leave.

Now a suppressor on the other hand I can see much more of a use for as a worthy addition/investment that is designed solely to be beneficial to the shooter along with anyone else who may happen to be nearby (unless they're a bad guy!).

They are much more beneficial on rifle calibers. I don't understand why people shoot 5.56 and .308 indoors at short range, but I much prefer it if they have a blast can or linear comp.
It keeps the walls and ceiling of the shooting bay a little nicer too since a braked rifle pretty much media blasts them.

I used one when I was shooting next to people at a class or something like out of a UTV and don’t want to bring a can. But I’ve since made mine into a form 1 supressor so I now only shoot suppressed.

In reality, a form 1 silencer is a far superior option to any blast can, unless you live in a state where only the kings men can have silencers.

I use one from Kak on my super short AR22 pistol. But I only use it since the 4.5" barrel ends inside of the 3.5" handguard. There is no way I would run a flash suppressor/muzzle brake/compensator inside of a free float handguard.

I have KAK can's on 223 wylde carbines and a 5.5" 9mm shorty ,. Helps to control muzzle blast and to keep most of it heading down range . Nothing worse than being at an out door range attempting to shoot small groups at distance and have some mutt sit down next to you with a basic flash hider or the latest greatest compensator out there and get that slapping kind of muzzle blast to the your face 10 feet away .
