No bullets damage your barrel. Even plain lead ( in the manual as do not shoot just like reloads - All lawyer / liability nonsense)
shoot whatever you want ( even plain lead ) and keep bore clan ( scrub every 200 rounds which is my method. - dry no solvent a pass to 3 does it)
 
Some reloaders have used a harbor freight powder coater to powder coat their bullets. I remember there being some suspicion that the powder coat used may have been somewhat abrasive.
If you are buying coated bullets from reputable bullet makers they are fine. If you are buying gunshow specials, you should always view them with skepticism.

I like the bullets from Missouri and Acme. They work great and really cut down on smoke and fouling.

Thanks for the caveat. These are originally from Black Bullets International, though, so I think I’m fine.
