Best way to carry while hiking/camping?

Been looking at guns for carry when hiking and camping, and I've finally decided on the Glock 29 10mm.

Now I just need to find a good way to carry it. One of my criteria for a hiking gun was that it needs to be small enough to conceal, so I need a holster system that is easily concealed. I could easily carry a 4" GP100 or 686 OWB or in a chest holster, but I much prefer to carry concealed.

My holster criteria are:
1. Concealed carry only (no open carry). I have my CCW permit and I like to use it. Even though I'll be in the woods, I prefer to conceal. This means some sort of OWB holster I can conceal with a untucked shirt, IWB or OWB clip on, paddle holster, fanny pack, etc.
2. Easy on/off. Especially for camping, in the middle of the night for bathroom trips if I'm wearing sweatpants, I don't want to have to put my belted pants back on just to go to the bathroom. If I'm wearing sweatpants is there a way to carry a regular holster? Could I get a standalone belt and just wear it over my pants and carry that way?
3. Comfortable. Self explanatory.

That's pretty much it. I was thinking IWB holster like the Crossbreed supertuck but I usually carry a pack when I'm hiking so it might be uncomfortable, get in the way and impede my draw. OWB would work, but I have to thread my belt through it, so that brought me to a paddle holster but if I'm not mistaken, they stick out a bit and are harder to conceal. I was thinking a fanny pack made for concealed carry, but...it's a fanny pack. I'd use one if I had no other choice though.

What is your advice?

Thanks,
Nick

I'm in a situation where I let my carry permit lapse (i know) and I promised to take my wife backpacking. I will probably be taking my 870 (gotta check but I'm pretty sure oc long guns are legal where I am). I know it seems a bit much, but I don't think I'll feel comfortable going to sleep w/o something handy (i don't even do that at home) and at least I wont have to make friends with any hippies.

In the past, a g19 in the pack has always sufficed.

I just hiked a couple miles with the Orvis Chip Pack hanging from my pack straps. It worked great. Without the chest strap, it hangs loose enough that it doesn't generate much sweat. I'm laying in the hammock with it on my chest as I type this. I'll try to snap some images tomorrow. Have a G20 and a small camera in the pack, BTW.

And it swings away some for ventilation.

I love my Bladetech Competition belt and holster as full kydex and a stiff nylon belt is great for outdoors. Unconcealed OWB Carry is the fastest draw.

I also have a Bladetech system for my Ruger Alaskan 454, which allows IWB or OWB. I prefer OWB for faster access against four legged Animals.

I just acquired a Grovtec chest Holster but it’s open carry, though. In it, I use my 5” Ruger Toklat 454 Casull or my 3” S&W 629 44 Magnum.

I have this and it works up to my G21. Lots of mounting/rigging options.

I've used it for years for hiking, canoeing, fly fishing etc. Hides the gun nicely under a pfd or fly vest. The square shape does not draw attention to it as well. Don't let the pic scare you away. I mount mine center chest.

I have this holster and love it. It is extremely configureable, can carry mid frame and large frame pistols. Well made and secure. Most of my other carry needs are met by the sport combat Glock holster.

I think any kind of belt holster is a no go with a pack, unless your putting it on the pack belt. I have a paddle holster that works on my pack belt well but not gonna be able to cover it for conceal, and when you drop your pack your weapons no longer on you unless you move the holster, which isn’t particularly difficult. This works for some.

I’ve tried a vertical shoulder holster with a pack. It’s ok. I have to work a bit to get the holster and pack straps to not overlap one or the other.

I’m thinking a “tanker” holster might be the ticket. Not quite Chest carry but close. Should be able to cover it with a partially buttoned Columbia shirt or what not.

In addition to the old leather GI tanker holsters I’ve found one from “First Spear” that I’m seriously considering, although it’s pricey for what it is. Also the Blackhawk Universal mentioned in a previous post might work well for half the cost.
