What do you think is the best handgun (pistol or revolver) under $1,000? Please pick just 1 gun with 1 specific caliber.

I am thinking of an all around handgun for carry, home defense, shtf...not so much hunting or plinking however if you feel a hunting or plinking gun is the best then by all means list it

Thanks

I am a huge proponent of the HKP2000 as a great all around, does whatever you need gun. They can be had new for under $1000 every time. I suppose I am a tad biased as a proud owner.

Range gun, CCW gun, or just to look and admire (though it's admittedly not the sexiest gun around), the P2000 does them all quite well. Mine is a 9mm DA/SA (V3) and I love it to death.

With a stock it would really improve the performance out to 100 yds. If you only had one firearm, this would be a positive. If you are still hung up on the barrel length, there are glock carbine conversions with 16" barrels.

If you had to hunt with out some kind of stock or carbine conversion to mount a optic on, placement would still be extemely important and a scope or some other optic would help that could be mounted onto the pistol.

I still believe that this handgun would give you the most overall capability.

That's hilarious! Reminds me of this:

BTW: If I only had one gun it would be a shotgun. Then I could really hunt all types of game and have better SD protection. Good luck w/ 9mm pistol hunting!

^^^^^ this is true!

It would be difficult to find the most perfect handgun for any one individual. Needs, likes and what pleases individuals vary just as much as the options available.

I'd have to agree that something like the Glock would likely fit better, for more shooters, than anything else.......but, there again, Glock has a lot of very refined competition in this market.

As others have mentioned, the revolver can do a few things that most autos can't, either.

Everything seems to have some sort of shortcomings, and advantages......just no way to pin it down to one greatest pistol.

For my own set of circumstances, I'd be tempted to say the 10mm, in a platform that has capacity and reliability......and, isn't so big that concealed carry isn't out of the question, would be the one I'd choose.....if it were the one and only handgun.

It's best to define a specific purpose, and find something that does that best.....for you.

Like most everyone, we have a number of specific purposes.....and only several choices can fulfill those needs.

One gun to do everything well is something that just doesn't exist!

There is no perfect handgun and it depends on how gun savvy you are.

Me, I like a good ole .45ACP in a five inch barrel 1911.
Or you could go with a revolver. A snub nosed .38Spl.
But if you're wanting capacity and durability then G19.

The G19 is the best all around choice.
The snubby is the best for concealment and weight.
The 1911 is a great shooter and I love the .45.

But if you want a really good piece of advice...
If you want a SHTF gun then buy a rifle AND a handgun.

G19 in RTF version.

But lately I have been packing almost exclusively PPS or PF9
