Looking for a carry 45. The GAP is the perfect platform but it seems to be destined to failure. The MP has great ergos but I hear the trigger is fair at best. The 36 has been iffy. What else is there for compact 45s?

I CC my P220 Compact pretty easy. It has a 3.9" barrel, and a short, single stack grip. A G36 is another good choice, as are CCO sized 1911's(4" barrel, short grip).

Both of the MPs that I've had have had great triggers.
One was because it had been shot a lot and the other is because of a little polishing.
The MP trigger problem is easily fixed, and is merely temporary if you plan to hit the range a few times. It just needs a breaking in. I wouldn't write it off. Just my .02.

Why don't you try an M&P rather than go by what you hear others say? I love my M&P9 Pro. It has a better trigger than either of my old Glocks, which is why I don't have them anymore.

I also love 3rd gen Smiths, which have a different trigger feel all together.

What feels good to one person may not to another. Some people like DAO's, Some TDA's, Some only like 1911's, etc....

I plan on getting a 4513tsw,4516 or 457 for carry next year.

LW and steel Commander-size 1911 guns have a long history of successful service for CC behind them.

For concealed carry I want a pistol without any external safeties or hammer. For a full size the S&W M&P45 is a great choice - mine has been totally reliable with everything from 185 gr. LSWC to 230 gr. JHP's.
I carried the Glock-36 for a few years but fouind that I could not conceal relaibly at all times and finally opted for a Kahr PM-9. Today I would consider the Kahr PM-45.

The M&Pc's trigger is fine. If you like Glocks the M&P is probably the closest thing you'll find. If Glock made a 45 ACP with the same dimensions I'd have one. I shoot the M&P 45c more accurately than any of my 9mm Glocks.

Now considering adding either a 1911 or an HK 45/45c. I wish the 45c had the 45's spiderman grips.

I've got three. Star PD, Detonics Combat Master, and AMT Backup. The one I actually carry is the Star PD. The other two are smaller, but the Star is lighter and more ergonomic. The controls are standard 1911-type, so it's easy to transition from any 1911 pistol to the Star. The Detonics is very small, and it doesn't feel secure in my hand. The sight radius is almost non-existant, but it's not designed to hit past 10-15 yards. The Backup is also very small, but feels more secure in my hand. It's the least reliable, and the only defense ammo I have only gotten it to feed well is Remington Golden Sabers. Still, six rounds of 230gr hollowpoint is pretty potent in such a small package.
All of the above are single-column magazines. We ARE talking concealment here. To me, all double-column concealment pistols feel a mile wide. I like 'em slim!

At the risk of starting up a never ending GAP thread, my opinion is that the 45 GAP will be around for a few decades. There are a few state police/highway patrol agencies who have adopted it, and rounds such as .470NE are still manufactured and Holland and Holland double rifles aren't exactly huge sellers.

That said the G39 ought to be considered. I would also add a Detonics if one likes a 1911 style pistol and I would also suggest the Sig P245 or compact 220. Also the Glock 30 can be easy to carry for some, it is about the same size as a G19 although thicker. It is actually a great time for a small .45 - some years ago the Detonics was all I could find that functioned. (Had an AMT backup that never worked right.) Since then advances have closed the difference between 9mm and .45 which potentially opens the field alot.

36 has been iffy? Sure... if you believe everything you read on the internet

find me one instance of a G36 failing in a SD situation....

Any reported G36 failures you might have seen can be attributed to shooter or ammo faults. I have seen it first hand... you take a G36 that has a feed/ejection problem with WWB or Federal Champion (powder puff ammo) and feed it some Gold Dots and the problem disappears...

As long you are good with the capacity (which any 1911 owner is) the G36 is a hard to beat CCW.

I carry the G30SF a lot and it's very acurate. Glock calls it a compact.

I bought a used 36 and had problems until I changed out the slide stop (Not sure what brand but it looked after market to me). Once I put in a stock slide stop it has been flawless. I think my round count is around 1,000 so far. (Not one malfunction)

The CCO-configured 1911 works great for concealed carry. The combination of officer length frame and grip combined with a commander length slide is great for IWB carry.

The Sig P220 works very well in that role, too, as does the HK45.
