Anyone black out their rear factory site?

I bought a used Glock 34 Gen 3. It came with a fiber optic front site and a Heinie black rear site. I really like that combination.

Last week I got a new Glock 34 Gen 4. I want to get the same set up as the Gen 3...fiber optic front, black rear. I think I'm getting
a Dawson front site, but instead of buying a new rear site I was thinking about just painting the white U on the Glock site black.

Just wondering if anyone had tried doing that?

If your rear sight is a stock Glock non-adjustable rear sight, I've seen some folks just take them out of the dovetail, turn them around, and install them backwards. Easier than messing with paint and such, and easy to "go back" if you want/need to do so. You might get some funny looks at the range if anyone notices, though...

Perhaps get a can of flat-black spray paint that is suitable for polymer/plastic parts, and spray it directly onto a small artists-type paintbrush, then use the paintbrush to (quickly) dab it on the sight (much better application control).

I've never tried this before on sights (but have used it on other small items that needed touching-up).

Smoke them with a lighter. Wipe the soot off as needed.

My mepros (green front/orange rear) are halfway through their 12 year half-life. Eventually,I want a Big Dot front, and don't really care about the rear.

I found the white U of the stock sight harder to get a quick sight picture than three dot sights. For a test, I cut a small piece of high tack masking tape that would cover the bottom part of the U, and took a black sharpie to it. My thought was it would give me a chance to try a sight picture similar to a three dot without permanently changing the sight. After several months of carrying, that little piece of black masking tape is still on the sight.
