An interesting product came in the mail today.

Saf T Lok.

It has two functions, it gives a Glock a manual safety, that blocks the use of the trigger, internally, from inside the firearm, and it also has a lock out function, where a 4 digit lock can be set with 9999 possible combinations.

Several drawbacks come to mind, looking at the product. One, reduced capacity. My Glock 23 with this magazine, holds 8 rounds. The second drawback, is access time to a usable firearm, is increased by a couple seconds.

I do think, for some situations, this would be a great product.

It is indorsed by the fraternal order of police, and one major locksmith group. About a dozen LEO agencies have lent their name to this product, and say they not only endorse it, they use it.

I will be using this for CC over the next week.

Retail price is $69.95

There was a guy on here who had the mag locked into his pistol rendering it useless because he couldn't get it out. If I remember correctly that ingenious piece of equipment locks itself onto the trigger bar.

Don't see the point really. Not so sure i believe that police departments actually use it not only from a liability standpoint but from a pure budgetary standpoint 70 bucks for a magazine seems excessive when most police officers carry at least 3

First the Saf T Bloc and now the Saf T Lok. Are these your products (that you are trying to promote) or are you infatuated with needless, over engineered and under thought out safety products for Glocks?

I do not sell them, I am just interested in safety and innovation. I could see lots of places that this product would be a bad fit, but I can see a few places where this be a good piece of safety equipment, if it is made well.

Admire the open-mindedness, but there are better ways/philosophies in keeping a the pistol and it's user safe.

All I can see is where this product can get you killed when your firearm is needed most. There is NO SUBSTITUTE for a quality GUN SAFE. If a firearm is not in a safe it should be in the possession of a competent person with the training and skills to operate it properly. Gizmo locks, safety blocks and disabled Glocks are all gimmicky snake oils designed to separate a fool and his money. (Notice that sweet rhyme I laid down there)

No don't use one, either the gun is on me in its holster loaded Or in one of my safes and loaded.

That looks way too complicated to manipulate under stress. Get a GunVault or something similar.

Appreciate the answers here.

We can all learn, and we can all share, and we can respectfully express our opinions and preferences from our experiences.

My experiences? Over 30 years of concealed carry, retired FFL, current NRA safety trainer.

Several mentioned gun safes. I very much believe in gun safes, own over a dozen of them, several are high dollar jewelry safes as I was a pawnbroker.

If we cannot think of a situation where it would be handy, having your gun being a safe unto itself, we are not thinking of how handy a tool this really is . I can thunk of several situations where this would be a good idea.

Use this as your trainer only magazine, keeping training rounds in it. Another level of safety as you practice presentations in a hotel mirror. Stove pipes and other jams can still be cleared and the slide cycled using this safety mag, blocking the trigger for an extra level of safety.

I ordered mine with a bright yellow base plate to easily tell it from other magazines.

I don't see this replacing regular duty magazines in most situations, I do recognize this as a tool many Glock.owners could make good use from.

I was given one at work. Never used it. After the first 4 guys had them lock up in the magwell, within the first month of issuance, I threw mine away. Total piece of junk, IMHO. I cannot think of a reason to use them, unless you store a loaded gun somewhere other than a safe.

The plastic "safe" (LifeJacket 1) that clamps over the gun is a better idea for someone who stores a loded gun without a safe. It also comes in steel.

For the OP, don't use it. Don't overthink it.
