Sis says she is buying faraday bags for her cell phone. “So If emp I can make sure my son 2000 miles away is safe”
my thinking. Cell in bag. Will not ring, cannot use, charge. Unless you know when EMP natural, or manmade? Even if phone works. Towers likely down.
Just seems waste.
What am I missing?

Thats you reply about a parent who wants to be able to find out if her child ok he is 25 is ok? Yes she is not thinking it thru. But from 1999 when she laughed when I gave her, my brothers each a tote of Y2K stuff. 4 rolls TP, squeeze flashlight, variety long term store foods, FEMA pamphlet, 6 pack water.. I forget what else They laughed.
Now she is ready for short interruption. Covid finally got her thinking. I went traveling during Covid. Few state I never got to yet.

If someone is worrying about their cellphone surviving an EMP event (or multiples, sequentially), they may not be seeing the forest for all the trees, and looking at the larger picture of nasty things that could happen in the aftermath.

Maybe invest in some old tube technology wireless gear, and hope there's enough others ... who will actually know what's happening ... with whom to communicate and commiserate when the modern world melts down.

Declassified information available on “super EMP” devices places the voltage per yard differential at 200,000 volts.

Detonate a device like that and you’ll likely take out everything.

The E3 pulse would be the most damaging to the grid.

Surprisingly, thermonuclear weapons are not nearly as potent for this purpose as an atomic bomb is.

Purchasing a faraday cage for a phone would be a complete waste of money without the infrastructure to support it.

Not really EMP, but has some similarities.
My niece bought a special case / bag to put on her precious I phone AFTER an earthquake….. so she can continue to post to all of her adoring fans??

Of course I had to ask “What about if your phone is crushed in the quake before you can put a case on?” Didn’t even get to the towers, no signal, etc.
Deer in the headlights.

I’m not arguing any of the points mentioned above, we are just in the minority even thinking about it.

Most are thinking (not thinking) about any of it.
But that is why we are here!
