Well, call me a sucker but it was a deal I just couldn't pass up. I picked up a like new Gen3 G37 w/4 mags for $375. I know, only 10+1 rounds(more like 9+1 since the slide will hardly move with a fully loaded mag in place) and I know, it's a hard cartridge to find and expensive to boot. Since I handload that's a moot point, I've got 500 once fired cases coming at $43 bucks and I'm getting some plated bullets to load practice ammo and XTP's for self defence ammo so I'll be loading for around the same price as about anything else really so by doing that it's NOT expensive at all.
Now I just need to find a G39 to back up the G37. Just hope I can find a similar deal on one. Anyway, I know, the GAP is a sucker's cartridge but I just couldn't pass up that deal.

Yep, the slides on the GAP are wider then on the 9/40/357 guns. I don't know if it's 20/21 wide but it is wide enough that it won't fit in my Blade-Tech or Blackhawk SERPA holsters for my G17. Of course if you've got a leather or nylon holster for a G17 then the G37 will stretch to fit in either of those but a "plastic" holster just doesn't have any give in it so it won't stretch to fit.

The downside to me for this gun,was the fact that the mags are so hard to load. Though there is resolve. No more downside, I purchased the. Maglula Uplula. 9-45. I love my GAP 37. Google MAGLUGA UPLUGA , if you are unfamiliar. Its an amazing tool!!!!!!!' Or google Hickok45 speed loader. Hickok 45. A youtbe world of knowledge.. One more note. If you look at any magazine follower of a used Gkock 37. It is most probably chewed up. This does not happen with a new magazine follower using the Maglula..

"Sucker" for a great gun & cartridge, maybe! You're in good company here. GAP will never be a bad idea as long as shooters desire a 45 caliber Glock pistol with an easier-handling grip, and value the performance of an improved standard-pressure .45 cartridge that doesn't need a 5" barrel to live up to it's full potential. I'm glad to have .45 GAP and .45 ACP Glock pistols in MY safe.

Versatility question here.

Am I correct in thinking I can use the frame of my 37 and mate it with the slide of a G22 I did a G27 grip chop on, and have a full size G22 for training, etc? Basically, I would swap out the trigger housing mechanisms, and everything would be kosher, correct?

Until I get into reloading, .40 in the amounts required for a lot of classes will be less than GAP.

Gen 3 for Gen 3,

I chopped my 31 to a 33 (or 26, or 27, or 39)

I've ran my G37 top on my G31 frame as well as ran my G31 top on my G37 frame, even used a LWD 40 to 9mm conversion barrel with G17 mags in the G31 slide on the G37 frame, ran a couple hundred round of each caliber, switching back and forth, no issues, ran like a Swiss watch no matter which or what with no internals switched out.

just my opinion here but if you can deal with the so called lack of ammo availability by shopping on line or reloading a GAP chambered Glock is just another fine choice of handgun from a well made firearms manufacturer.

BUT.....

if you are of the "run down to wally world and get a box of ammo before going to the range" type you should probably look for a different caliber handgun.

like I said, just my opinion.

I jumped in with both feet when I got my 37. I have a Gen-3 and later on I got a Gen-4. I was browsing the For Sale ads on this forum and got a deal on 5000 rounds of brass. After finding brass for sale here and there, I now have two five gallon buckets full that will probably last longer than I will.

The biggest problem I've had is locating magazines. Again, looking here and there, I've got about twenty stuffed in an ammo can near the reloading bench now. Like said earlier, if you want to take advantage of the 10 + 1, you will need a strong hand and a good reloading tool.

I have one of the early G37's. I have never had much trouble finding ammo except when ammo was scarce for all calibers. I have purchased the bulk of my ammo from GA Arms in the form of their "canned heat" and then turned around and reloaded it. The pricing of 45GAP has been comparable to 45ACP most of the time. I reload so cost is not much of a factor.

What I like most is that I have a 45 that has about the same kick as my 9mm but has the punch of a 45. I have had many 1911 style 45's but they either pinched or hurt my hand when I fired them. I also find the Glock 45 ACPs to have a grip that I am not comfortable with (The G36 is the exception).

Enjoy the 45GAP. Once people get familiar with them they usually typically become the "favorite" pistol.

They should avoid 10mm and 357 Sig too.

Also, if one wants to inexplicably limit themself to local availability, it likely hinders them obtaining 50 round boxes of "premium" HP like Ranger T, Gold Dot, and HST even in the typical 9mm, 40, 45 acp.

Ammo has never been a problem for me as long as I can get dies and brass. That's one of the great things about being a Handloader, we can cobble something together to shoot when other folks can't find anything.
I've even made 7.62x38R ammo from 32/20 brass and home cast bullets and it worked like a charm in the old Nagant revolver that I had.
