Hey all,

After years and years of wanting one, im finally going to pull the trigger on a TA31 ACOG. Never had the money and now that I finally do...im stumped. Just because I have the money doesn't mean Im ablw to throw aroubd $1000 willy nilly. Ideally I'd love to go in to a store and try out both of the reticles. However, due to where I live that's just not an option. So here we are...

This will be an all purpose gun. Plinking, 3 gun, occasional hogger and really just a jack of all trades.

I'm partial to the Chevron just because I think it looks cleaner but in curious to hear everyones opinion. The argument (for me at least) for the horseshoe is that you're really only going to use the "main" reticle at 100 yards or less. Anything past that you use the BDC. So if the dot inside the horseshoe is 2 MOA that means worst case scenario it'll cover up 1/2 inch...? Am I correct in assuming this? If not please let me know. Assuming I am correct that means that the Chevron only gains a 1/2" (maximun) advantage in accuracy.

The other thing I've heard is that the horseshoe is easier to pick up when you're in closer and shooting with both eyes open. Do you guys find that to be true?

Anyways, that's what I've got so far. Any and all input is greatly appreciated even if it has nothing to do with what I mentioned above. Im ecstatic that I'm finally going to have my first ACOG but I just want to make sure I'm not left with buyers 's remorse for the next year or two.

Thanks guys!

The only reticle I've used with any ACOG is chevron. It offered pretty good speed and decent precision. No experience at all with the horseshoe versions. ACOG is tough as an anvil, and they will perform in the worst conditions on earth. That said, I prefer a LPVO for my "jack of all trades" rifles. The ACOG can definitely perform at close range, however a variable set to 1X is faster to me. Just one man's opinion.

Be safe

If you want precision the crosshair is awesome , I actually have 2 of them and will be selling one to fund my new house. The horse shoe reticle is to busy for me. Too much going on in I small area. The chevron would be my choice between the two you mentioned. I’ve tried every reticle in a TA31 even the ACSS. I chose the crosshair or chevron depending on if you want pinpoint precision , or the best all around.

I have a chevron-outfitted ACOG, and I'd prefer a simple crosshair, but I bought mine used.

I agree with Turk, above, that the horse-shoe reticle is just too busy/cluttered.
KISS is a thing for a reason.

+1 for the chevron, much prefer it over horseshoe for reasons already mentioned here.

Yet another Chevron user. I agree with all those above.
